Hi,

Just a quick message, expect nobody will be able to help but I am getting desperate.

Just tried to log onto my online testing for the university (WebCT) and am having problems. The questions and possible answers are mixed up amongst a lot of crap, such as:

In the integral ∫ 0 1 5x dx x 2 +8 MathType@MTEF@5@5@+=feaafiart1ev1aaatCvAUfeBSjuyZL2yd9gzLbvyNv2CaerbuLwBLnhiov2DGi1BTfMBaeXatLxBI9gBaerbd9wDYLwzYbItLDharqqtubsr4rNCHbGeaGqiVCI8FfYJH8YrFfeuY=Hhbbf9v8qqaqFr0xc9pk0xbba9q8WqFfeaY=biLkVcLq=JHqpepeea0=as0Fb9pgeaYRXxe9vr0=vr0=vqpWqaaeaabiGaciaacaqabeaadaqaaqaaaOqaamaapedabaWaaSaaaeaacaaI1aGaamiEaiaaykW7caWGKbGaamiEaaqaaiaadIhadaahaaWcbeqaaiaaikdaaaGccqGHRaWkcaaI3aaaaaWcbaGaaGimaaqaaiaaigdaa0Gaey4kIipaaaa@4250@ the substitution U= x 2 +8 MathType@MTEF@5@5@+=feaafiart1ev1aaatCvAUfeBSjuyZL2yd9gzLbvyNv2CaerbuLwBLnhiov2DGi1BTfMBaeXatLxBI9gBaerbd9wDYLwzYbItLDharqqtubsr4rNCHbGeaGqiVCI8FfYJH8YrFfeuY=Hhbbf9v8qqaqFr0xc9pk0xbba9q8WqFfeaY=biLkVcLq=JHqpepeea0=as0Fb9pgeaYRXxe9vr0=vr0=vqpWqaaeaabiGaciaacaqabeaadaqaaqaaaOqaaiaadwfacqGH9aqpcaWG4bWaaWbaaSqabeaacaaIYaaaaOGaey4kaSIaaG4naaaa@3B55@ is used.
Which of the following has dx MathType@MTEF@5@5@+=feaafiart1ev1aaatCvAUfeBSjuyZL2yd9gzLbvyNv2CaerbuLwBLnhiov2DGi1BTfMBaeXatLxBI9gBaerbd9wDYLwzYbItLDharqqtubsr4rNCHbGeaGqiVCI8FfYJH8YrFfeuY=Hhbbf9v8qqaqFr0xc9pk0xbba9q8WqFfeaY=biLkVcLq=JHqpepeea0=as0Fb9pgeaYRXxe9vr0=vr0=vqpWqaaeaabiGaciaacaqabeaadaqaaqaaaOqaaiaadsgacaWG4baaaa@37C8@ become ?

I guess the "crap" is to do with formatting but it isn;t working and just showing that.

Please help me if anybody can, I am desperate :(

Just an idea, if you're downloading that lot as a Word doc, have you got Microsoft Equation Editor installed? Or, looking at the first line of gibberish, perhaps you need some program called MathType?

Cheers for the reply jonny, it's a java window, i tried updating to sun java VM as a try and it didn't help, in the words of WebCT:

Downloading Equation Editor and Viewer| Top

If you are taking an assessment that contains equations, WebCT recommends that you download the WebEQ Equation Editor and Viewer to your local machine prior to taking the assessment. This will greatly speed up the delivery of the assessment.

Download WebEQ Editor and Viewer from WebCT's download area: http://www.webct.com/equation.

So i thought, oh maybe it's that, so went to it and got:

WebEQ Equation Editor

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The WebEQ Equation Editor has been integrated into WebCT so you can easily create, save, and view complex equations within WebCT. The Equation Editor allows WebCT users to type, manipulate, and edit mathematical notations in many WebCT tools and areas - including content pages, quiz questions and answers, discussion topics and messages, mail, and notes.

Supported Configurations

WebEQ 2.0 works with WebCT Campus Edition 3.7, 3.8, 4.0, 4.1 and WebCT Vista.
Note: WebEQ 3.0 Browser Controls do not work with WebCT.

The WebEQ Equation Editor plug-in is no longer available for download.

So I guess it's already done supposedly? The deadline is friday at 4pm, had 3 weeks, just been waiting until we did a bit of revision on integration, I have tomorrow afternoon to do it but I wanted to do something else that's important then :(

Agggghhhhh!

Ask whoever wrote it?

Ask your friends on your course?

Print a picture of those responsible and fire darts at them (doesn't help but makes you feel better).

LOL, well I am really pissed off :(

I have emailed but I already emailed once because SP2 makes a change which they don't make a very big thing of and it won't work unless you untick it! My email isn't receiving emails either right now (stupid SPAM filtering, if lots come through, it can take hours for emails to come through)

Friends on course don't mind doing it at uni, I want to do it in my room, they all did it this afternoon on the uni comps.

Off to get my darts....

Jonny, looked up mathtype, it's a posh version of eqn editior, doesn't look like you need a plug in though, it should work with IE...

:(

That error msg is one that keeps coming up in my head. Bloody thing!

Firstly SP2 switches off "show friendly HTTP errors" or something, so that needs to be changed, yet they hide the error in one of the 10 help systems and tell me off for no looking. Now it's unreadable as it has all that rubbish - I gave it a go but got 1/4 correct, despite it being mid-A level standard I can get 100% on, simply because firstly the questions didn't show properly and secondly because i am not sure what to input in terms of a numerical answer?!

:(
