I have a 1978 900T Amigo, roadworthy but restoration stopped almost 5 years ago now due to house move and they need to work on our new home.
I have my own website http://fiat900t.co.uk/ detailing what I've done so far - although like my posts on this site I haven't updated the site in ages as there has been no progress. If things go to plan (they often don't) I'm looking to start working on the restoration again later this year - frustratingly this will mean revisiting a lot of what I've done previously as sitting around for the best part of 5 years hasn't been great for the van.

Hey everyone,
I am quite new to this site, and forums in general really. I just got one of these little fellas (he's called Flash) and I'm looking to change the brakes up from drums to disks. Does anyone have any advice?

Hi, welcome to the forum.
It really depends on how handy you are, or how flush you're feeling.

Late model 900e vans have front discs already so are a bolt on swap.
Some other fiat models can lend odd and ends for a mix and match system.

If you're really keen you can make your own caliper mounts and fit whatever goes under your wheels.

Speaking of wheels, all the conversions I'm aware of need at least 13" rims.

My 850t has modern 500 front discs and 500 abarth rear discs though they're yet to be tested in anger.

Hi,
I'm also hoping to upgrade my 900T to disc brakes, ideally all-round, but starting at the front. I did get a couple of front stub axles from Ebay a few years ago, supossedly from a 900E - the only thing servicable was the backplates and the calipers didn't appear in any of the 900E or 850 spec's (I didn't manage to find where they came from).

Upgrade to discs is still on the to do list... hopefully one day someone will post a step-by-step guide on how to do it (with a parts list).

Meanwhile, as Badget notes, you will need to increase the wheel rim size to allow space for the calipers (when you get them).

I've fitted 5.5J x 14" rims (35ET Offset) shod with 155/65 rubber with no problem to my 900T.
This keeps the rolling circumference almost identical to the original 4J x 12" rims with 155/80 rubber and no fouling.
There are a couple of websites I used to check the speed differences of the tyre sizes (didn't want to have the issue of recalibrating the speedo) and both indicate that the van would be doing 70.55MPH when showing 70MPH - if only my 900T (Connie) would reach it.

The added bonus is that the ride and steering are much better and with more choice of tyres.

If memory serves me right. fiat 128, fiat x19, Strada and uno should all be good to fit. Lancia Y10 and fiat 127 should be compatible. But i think they had rear drums. What implications you many come across are another story. Would be interesting to see your progress on it. 🤗

I'm afraid those kits will not fit an 850t or any of the 900's

You may be able to utilise the calipers but the hubs and brackets are totally different.

I think the vans share a front end with the 1100 vans.

This the caliper mounting bracket I made to fit 2012 500 calipers to my 850t
You can see just how different they are to those used in that kit.

they must be like the fiat 127 then? are you near Cornwall / Kernow?

In fact before i bin it and obviously you can fabricate you can have my old 100hp rear axle cut the brackets off and adapt now you can use ford ka, panda, even 500 stuff. If i remember you were going for rear discs! What a nice project! 🤗

Alas no, I'm at the opposite end of the country (Tyneside).

I have already mounted abarth calipers to the rear arms and plumbed it all in.
I just need to bleed it and make the cable holder for the handbrake.

Still have high hopes to hit the road in the spring.

Walker by any chance? Any ways Those picks look well nice would love to see more. Wasnt the engine in the rear? If your ever camping down my neck of the woods id love to see her. When shes finished that is.

Lovein the wheel skates on axle stands ;)

Not Walker but only a few miles down the road.

There are wooden blocks screwed to the dolly's and then the stands sit in holes to stop them sliding.
There's then an adaptor to stop the van sliding off the stands.

It's a tight space to work in so being able to push the van side to side saves a lot of time.

No idea how far it will go or if it will go at all yet.
There's quite a bit of experimental parts on this but should I venture that far I'll be sure to look you up.
