 Right, i have a leaky heater matrix (1.1 55sx 1995), when i had it bypassed the temp would only rise to halfway when the car was at a standstill in traffic but the fan would cut in and the temp would drop and would sit just above the quarter mark when driving. Ive reconnected, it took two bottles of bars leaks to seal it; the problem now is the temp goes up to half way when driving, the fan still kicks in but the temp dont seem to drop. I dont have any air locks as ive bled and bled and bled it with no air present. Anyone any ideas.

Where does the needle sit when not in traffic? The temp gauge is uncalibrated and therefore for guidance only. As long as the fan is keeping the car from OVER-heating and cuts out when it's done it's job you should be OK.

Does the fan stay on until you are moving at speed again or does it come on for a minute and then off again without moving?

ok, before i had the problem with the matrix it would sit at around the quarter mark and go up to around half way when stationary in traffic, the fan would kick in and the needle would drop relatively quickly to about the quarter mark.............this would continue until moving again. Now the needle rises and sits just below the half mark when moving. When stationary in traffic the needle still sits around the half mark and the fan does kick in however it just sits there and doesnt drop like before. So why the sudden rise in temperature and the inabillity of the fan/cooloing system to cool the engine as before

I'd say your heater matrix problem was causing your car to run to cool matey. That sounds like a perfectly normal behaviour for the temp gauge. If your fan was making a quarter gauge difference before I would suggest there was a problem.

My Bravo sits on the dot of halway and barely moves above. When sationary it will barely move above half, fan cuts in, goes back to half and stays there.
