Hey all,

I have a 99 T Reg Seicento Sporting (1108 SPI), and the alternator has completly seized up and is jamming.

Firstly, does anyone know how hard a job it is to put one in, and the best way to go around doing it? (i already have the arch liner off to make it easier).

Secondly, anyone know where to buy a new/recon one (is it worth getting a second hand one?) or get mine 'reworked'? (I am in the midlands, but willing to travel)

Any help is very much appreciated, i'm suppose to be driving up to Yorkshire on Monday so I really want it sorted :(

Cheers All
Dave

There is bound to be a local auto spark who will be able to supply you with a recon unit off the shelf. Alternator itself is easy to cahnge, just make sure the battery is disconnected before removing it.

Have fun

I just reconned mine as it was grinding when it spun. You don't need to drop the engine!!! Take the wheel off and in little bit of inner arch. undo the bottom bolt think it was a 16mm. With the adjuster bolt just keep turning it and it does get tightish but does come out without the need to drop the engine. Take it to a local auto sparks they should be able to recon it. Mine just needed a couple of bearings sounds like yours needs the same.
Just a note before you put the alternator back on cut a slit in the adjusting slot on the bracket. That way if you ever need it off again you just have to slacken off the adjusting bolt instead of winding it all the way out
Hope this helps

Either that or cut 1/4" off the offending bolt's thread and it goes in and out unimpeded.
