Promise this is my last question for the month!!!

Wot 17's will fit onto the coupe without spacers. I've seen Khans and OZ and AZEFs (think thats it)fitted before butI've read some posts on various sites saying that the brembos make it really difficult to get rims that fit. Fact or myth? All advice and options will be appreciated as always? And good stockists!!!

Kenny

Here goes...

I'm sure you already know how much of a pain in the arse it is trying to find wheels to clear the 20VT Brembos. There are only a very limited range you can fit without spacers. You need 4 x 98mm PCD with 40mm offset.

The following list is what I had written down from a while ago but I can't guarantee it's accuracy so you need to do your own research on these b4 buying, but I think these all fit without spacers...

Team Dynamics Pro-Race 1
ETA Beta Alnair
Azev C (or Azev A with hub machined down)
Azev E
Momo GT2
Dare V5
Mille Miglia Spider
OZ Superleggera (with wobbly bolts)

Have a serach around the web for pics and post them on here. I wouldn't mind seeing what some of these look like as I've forgotton now !

My personal favourites are the Dare V5. Although the coop looks pretty tasty with the Azev E's too....

Spunky i think i should pay you a wage as my part time advice line!!!;)

Was thinking about something a bit more spokie like TSW reflex but I like being able to see the brembo's. The dare 5s look smart a bit like Khans but more gunsten in colour. I think those bad boys will be selected for a tour of duty on the coupe. Do you think going from 225's to 205's will make a big dif to the drive?

Got a few bits and bobs planned for the coupe but bricking myself incase it takes away from the look of the car..... Might post a few pics as i do it to get some feed back/abuse!!:)

Doh![:(!], that was my attempt at trying to post a picture of the BK283 alloy i was thinking of, have emailed BK to request fitment info......

Host the picture here (it's free to register)... www.photobucket.com

Then, after you have uploaded the pictures you want, copy and paste the URL in here. Should work OK.

I think this rim would really suit the coop cos it compliments its distinctive line, although khans/dare look smart I sometimes feel they look to skinny for the car...... Jsut got the beast dropped 30mm, and my 571 fitted. I know most say they lose low end power but it feels as if mines is pulling better now. I'm prob just getting carried away with the induction roar..... hopefully back in to get the dump valve fitted as it only came with one fitting kit when it requires two cos it recircs and dumps.... hope its it not a jack of all and master of none!!!
Think I'm gonna launch another question!!!!!

Alloys are a very personal thing - I think the BK283 look a little bit too fussy, I prefer a clean uncluttered style of alloy (I don't really like multispokes either). Saying that, they might look different on the car so I'll reserve judgement until then ;)

So do these beasties fit straight onto the 20VT with no spacer?

Still waiting on a replie from BK..... Starting to waver on the idea now anyway. Its going to get a rear apron, front splitter and LE skirts fitted think the rims would maybe make it look too cluttered. Local wheels shop mention a "whobbly bolt kit" as an alternative to spacers any comments on this method? The name alone worries me!!!

I don't see how wobbly bolts are an alternative to spacers - maybe they have got there wires crossed. Wobbly bolts simply allow you to fit a wheel of a slightly different PCD. You need 4 x 98mm PCD, my guess is that they are trying to sell you a wheel with a 4 x 100mm PCD with wobbly bolts to cope with the difference.

Wobbly bolts just have a pivoting shoulder and shouldn't really cause any problems, so this is a valid way to fit wheels with a slightly different PCD. Don't assume they will clear those brembos without a spacer though - few do.

Maybe it's a bit late the day to be asking this but say I did go for a wheel that needed a spacer wot bearing would it have on the drive. Would I be able to notice that it wasn't the ideal fit either visually or drive wise?

kenny f

As long as they are not more than 3-5mm thick I don't think you would notice them visually. There are mixed oppinion and on them in terms of safety and affects on handling.

Personally, I wouldn't really be too concerned on fitting 3mm jobs, any more than that and you should really be fitting longer wheel bolts. I have heard one or two horror stories of wheel bolts snapping due to the increased stress but I think you have to take those with a pinch of salt.

Fitting any thickness of spacer will alter the steering and suspension geometry and hence the handling of the car. Often it worsens tramlining. It will marginally affect torque steer as well due to the contact patch being further apart. Stress will go up on wheel bearings due to the extra leverage - a 10mm speacer would approx double the load on the bearing !

At the end of the day, you takes your choice. My advice would be, if you have to fit them - keep them less than 5mm.

Im sorry but am one of the guys from the other side of the fence with regards to safety and spacers - personal view I dont rate them on a Coupe due to 67% weight loading on the front suspension, but they are sold so as Spunky stated - you pays your money and takes your chance. ;)
