Hi everyone, a couple of days ago I was surfing the net for car bits and came across a company called ECOTEK, they claim to have a gadget which improves performance and reduces fuel consumption(sounded to me like a bit of a con)I thought this gadget is probably too expensive and does not work, as I read futher into their product I realised that there were loads of articles/testamonials and even a column in the TIMES about it.
The gadget is £50 and is a universal fit, so I ordered one last thursday, it came today and I had it fitted.

To cut along story short, THIS LITTLE GADGET HAS MADE A MASSIVE DIFFERENCE, I HAVE AN ABARTH SELESPEED AND THE DIFFERENCE WAS AMAZING, THE ACCLERRATION IS QUIKER/ MUCH SMOOTHER, THE LUMPY GEAR CHANGE FROM 1ST TO 2ND IS NO MORE, ITS QUIETER AND BEST OF ALL I WAS GETTING 38MPG ON THE MOTORWAY AT 80MPH!!!!!, THE BEST MPG I GOT BEFORE WAS 27/28.

I think this little gadget for the price is very good value for money, and everyone should fit one.

My local fiat spcialist in Harrow took about 1/2 hour to fit it, and the difference was immediate.but be aware due to the location of the brake servo pipe, it is a bit pig to get to.

PLEASE VISIT the website www.ecotekplc.com, the gadget is called the CB-26P, the gadget is a mechanical valve that bleeds a little extra air into the engine, which creates a bigger bang, giving you better fuel burning and performance.

NB DONT BOTHER ORDERING THE SILENCER, IT LOOKS GREAT BUT THERES JUST NO ROOM FOR IT BEHIND THE ENGINE IN A STILO(PRICE WITH SILENCER £70, WITHOUT £50.)

If someone already knows about the product, please give us your opinion.

Regards kk

One word - "snakeoil".
Agreed. I'm awfully sorry but the acceleration can't possibly be any better with the ecotec fitted, as it will be closed at full throttle. It only does anything when there is vacuum in the intake manifold, i.e. at part throttle. Ecotec have fallen foul of the trading standards people for claiming this.

We've been through this a hundred times before. There's safety implications with cutting the brake servo hose too, it could leave you with almost no brakes were the device to fail.

Do you had a connection with ecotec?

I fitted one to my Suzuki Baleno GSR 1839cc (yes, I know it's not a Stilo so maybe my findings are not applicable)
The noise it made was pretty appalling - think plughole gurgling.

My own findings were that my mpg suffered a negative change by 3mpg. In accordance with their policy I returned it for a no quibble refund and got that, with no quibbles.

A couple of my mates also bought them and we really did almost convince ourselves that the acceleration and gearchanges were smoother. However, without strict laboratory testing who will ever know?

I wonder if the increases in mpg that other people gain are a factor of a changed driving style with the device fitted. E.g. perhaps they completely lift off the gas approaching a roundabout (to hear the intake noise) where before they may have approached with a slight throttle opening...
Just a thought.

Hello, Ive thought about what everyone has said above, and still feel that the valve has made a substantial difference to my abarth, it drives smoothly from the word go, previously, when the engine temp was cold, until it had reached optimum temp I would have to put up with lumpy gear changes and abrupt acceleration, now its smooth from take off.
(and no i have not got a connection with ecotek, besides the hundreds of pounds they back hand me every month!!)

For any sceptic, especially abarth owners I would say fit one and feel the difference for yourself.
If anything, the drop in fuel consumption is a major plus, as these days fuel is almost £4 a gallon! the performance gains are an added bonus.

PS what does SNAKE OIL mean?

It refers to the old days of the Wild West, where con-men would sell "Snake-Oil" as the cure-all for all and sundry. People would be conned into buying what would be little more than coloured water and find it did sod-all, surprise surprise.

Well guess what this snake oil works and is working wonders in my motor.
Neil, dont you get the same symptoms when the engine is cold, lumpy change(especially 1st - 2nd), abrupt acc and kangerooing, or is your motor sorted?

Why dont you try one? They have a no quibble refund policy, so you have pretty much nothing to lose(excpt mechanics fees, if you need one)

The noise is not an issue, all you hear is 1 second whoosh sound from take off, a little like a dump valve but not as loud or as long.(it only happens when your at a standstill and move off in first)

In traffic with the windows down I cannot hear it at all,(a stilo's engine bay is pretty well sound proofed/sealed)so the noise is not an issue at all.

Don't take this the wrong way If I'm wrong, Kaitan, But it does sound to me like your'e plugging this company for all it's worth. Are you sure you don't work for them?

No I dont work for ecotek, Im just a humble technician, it may sound like I love ecotek, but after all the trouble ive had with my stilo, tyres, engine, creaky body panels, creaky dashboard(which is still there, ive given up trying to find the problem), error messages, faulty gearbox, faulty temp sensor, esp/asr failure(and more) its just nice to have my car working better than before.

I apologise for sounding slimy.

wow, you seem to have the full set there m8. how unlucky is that. i am still thinking about one but some say the noise is really bad. would the filter stop that and are you sure there aint room for it.

Trust me mate, there is no room for the silencer, barely enough room to get your hand to the servo pipe, its located between the windscreen and the engine, you should see a small gap between the engine and the engine bay at the windscreen wiper side of the engine
The pipe, is the thickest one their.

The silencer physically wont fit between the gap.
I think the noise sounds quite cool and sporty, if you can hear it.
