Sometimes its better to let them get what they are after with minimal damage to the rest of the car, they'll take it anyway but at least your pride and joy is still intact....just a thought.

the problem is if you claim on your insurance they will write the car off
if you take it to a garage an estimated bill will be £400 minimum
if you can do it yourself you would need complete s/h engine wiring harness and at least a second hand virginesed ecu )probably your own that was posted across the country so it can be sold on a famous internet site)

Does anyone know the exact places this is happening at the moment? I know folk have said it's the 55-56 plates so that excludes me (mine is an '03 plate) but this is still worrying... I have no other place to park my Punto than in a piblic car park at night on the main road - it's right in front of my house, I can see it from my living room window, and the car park is CCTV'd and there's always police cars driving up and down the main road, but I still wouldn't put it past someone to give it a try if they really wanted to.

I live in Scotland though... has it reached that far yet? :(

At the Moment its only greater manchester Mentioned, ive had alook on google nowt else mentioned.

not much info on it, but im sure they will be caught real soon ;)

That's weird all i can say but if it happens to mine it's a write off :D

 (if it happens to mine it's a write off :D[/QUOTE] )

but still it will be at your expense if a claim goes in, and most probs your claim wouid put everyone else's insurance premiums up,

if no claim went in then still, you wouid have to replace car, or buy bus pass,

You know what i say oldhammer, just go with the flow. If someone nicks ' yours' don't be shy go out and steal one back for yourself okay maybe is better to steal two then. Just in case. :D

not sure how to take this, ihope your not serious,
if so idont think its agood way to start as a newbie on a forum,

Theres no need to steal punto parts, plenty of em in scrapyard,

Stealing because youve been stolen from isnt the best way to go ..

Free B&B in the bighouse or free crutches from NHS if caught not many people nowadays ..bother using the relavant law abiding 101 service,

hardly worth the risk or blatant ignorance to cause missery to others,

Hello,

My cousin called me round today as his car wouldn't start, air box under the car, ecu gone.

My question is what do we need to do to get it running again?

It's a mk3 53 plate active.

I'm a mk6 fiesta st owner but I'm unsure of what needs replacing as in a fez the clocks and things are linked to the ecu.

Thanks.

I'm not the best in electrics but i would say that first you need an ecu obviously because that is missing right. If you can find somebody who can program the rest of the stuff into it then job done. Otherwise you might need to get a key, barrel, immobilizer, ecu combo, or just immobilizer and ecu not sure though, injectors might need programming in aswell.

Ring local bobbies and report it to the police

2x
Its probably easier to get a wiring loom of a car of the same type

IE - if you have ABS - donor car needs abs
if yours has 2x lambda - you need 2x lambda
etc etc

do a loom swap as then you know its wired up correctly, and as said, you now require a virginised ECU

Ziggy

Thanks for the help guys, he said he managed to get hold of an ecu from someone he knows from work, but he 'thinks' it's from a mk2.

I'm assuming they changed the ecu and the mk2 to mk3 wasn't just cosmetic?

The wiring all looks intact they just yanked the air box off but seem to have been quite neat when it came to the ecu (probably so they could come back in a few days once it's replaced and pinch another)

There is one on eBay, virginised, in rochdale (hmmm :/) for £100 would it be a case of plugging it in and away you go?

Okay so I got the ecu from my cousins friend today, it's an m3 ecu, apparently he needs a p3 ecu. Will this m3 one never work with his car or is there anything that can be done to make it work

it shouid be plug and play as long as its same ecu number,

I'm not sure which one he had as the only time it needed touching was to put a new one in after it got pinched. It's a 53 plate 1.2 active. They one we not have is a 'm3m model ecu, it fits perfectly but obviously won't start the car as it's not been virginised. Just need to know if this ecu would work once it had been virginised or weather it needs a different ecu, perhaps the 'p3'

not sure tbh mate,

your best off ringing a punto specialist breaker,
they will morethan likely ask you a few questions, eg about how many lambda sensors its got, none aircon/or no aircon blah-de blah,.
but they will be able to work out what you need,

Send S&B a pm on here, he is punto specialist so he will more than likely be able to guide you to the right path,
