Alfa Servicing?

me 2 years ago :D

dont bother with a specialist, just pay half the price elsewhere. people tend to get over excited about alfa belt changes, but there's no need, any fool can do it, even me.

As suggested on the Coupe forum for Fiats - will of course need to ask if they do alfas too (y)

Yes they do Alfas too. I've never seen them without one or two Bellas.

I'd disagree with Jug on this one. Most garages don't know their arse from their elbow when it comes to Italian cars. If its not a Ford Focus or a Vauxhall Corsa they havn't a clue. Barry and Paul are great guys, mention you're from the Forum or mention me and my flotilla of bravo/marea and they'll see you right.

"Ohhh....you know Hellcat from the Fiat Forum, do you? Right, yeah we'll look after you, no worries. So this is your Alfa Seicento Due Valvole, is it?...."

I know a few garages that simply WILL NOT ACCEPT a fiat or an alfa, part because they frown on anything other than a paxo or a corsa, and partly because I think frankly, they are scared!!!:p

theres a few garages near me at home that won't even service the saab! and that thing is 85% GM parts:rolleyes:

Okay I'll give them a ring and ask how much they want to charge me . Cheers (y).

I've had a quote already for £350 just for the cambelt change and another £100 ontop for the variator if done at the same time.

last time i did an alfa 156 i charged £275 to do the cambelt, tensioner, idler, balancer shaft belt, balancer shaft tensioner & variator. it wasnt hard at all tbh (i used an online guide), but the parts cost me so much i made less than £100 profit. i've had no formal training and i managed it easily in about 6 hours, that car was still ok over 10k later when the owner (mam's fiancee's son) sold it. if i can do it any garage can, they sometimes refuse to do it because it takes so long compared to most other cars, but taking a long time doesnt mean it is hard to do, it just costs more.

my experience of FAST is not good at all, they couldnt diagnose a faulty injector on my 1.6 bravo, and lets be honest if you have all the fiat equipment and you used to work at fiat you should be able to spot a faulty injector a mile off. they tried to tell me i needed new plugs, leads and coil pack, and then they offered to do it for almost as much as the car cost. cheeky or what!! plus they charged me more for a diagnostic (that still found nothing) than fiat would. i'll never go there again, even if i break down outside the place.

Would you do it for me jug? :D (y)

13months ago i would have said yes no problem i'll be there in an hour. but i stopped working on cars a year ago (hence i joined to forum to offer online help instead), i've been working full time in IT since then (which sucks) so i dont have any spare time these days. it would take me a full day to do it, and a full day is one thing i dont have. besides if i agreed to do it my girlfriend would freak out and kill me, she seems to think i should spend my weekends running around after her  if it was up to me i'd probably still do it just for the crack, but i cant. sorry :(

best thing to do it buy all the parts yourself, then get a local garage to fit them. if it goes horribly wrong they're insured so it will get fixed. but its honestly not as hard as everyone thinks so dont even worry about it, they'll be able to do it.
