I'm going to buy an alarm today, as I'm unable to find a Haynes manuel.....
What wires do I need to connect to for the central locking and where is the best place to cut the ignition circuit for the imobiliser bit ?

My advice would be to see if the place ur getting it from can fit it for you.
It can be really dodgy sometimes when trying to fit an alarm yourself and at least the company should be insured

And miss out on all the fun of hanging upside down under the dash and stabbing myself in the eye with a red hot soldering iron ?
I've fitted loads on all the minis I've owned in the past, but they are pretty much lo-tech, just wondered if somebody elese has done it before I start poking me multimeter into little holes and making things go pop

Hi I got to the central locking and the indicators all in one place at connector under the passenger side of the dash. Its the think that looks as though its a mounting point for the dash but is actually just a sort of bracket for three or four electrical connectors. For the ignition and permanent live I used wires I had already connected to the ignition switch, but you could go into the loom from the ignition switch fairly easily either by removing the steering column trim or by taking out the speedo/tach unit. There is lots of room under this unit to mount the alarm control unit.

For the immobiliser relay I put this onto the fuel cutout wiring (centre of the front bulkhead just to the left of the clutch pedal.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

michael

Cheers for that mckcrich
I shall spend most of tomorrow fitting while nursing the mothe rof all hangovers ;)

Maplin have the Microscan AN214 for sale at 50 notes at the moment, central locking i/f and microwave sensor all with it as well !!!
Not bad for 20 pints of Stella :D

I'll take piccies as I install to post on here should anybody else need a pictoral guide

Well everything is fitted except the microwave sensor and ingnition cut off relay, the hangover, skinned knuckles and general cold got to me in the end !

The central locking part of the alarm only pulls a 300ma high, not enough to fire the solenoids, so it's a case of buying the additional locking module, but at least the donkey work of finding the right wires in the loom is done.

I thought minis were tight for space under the dash, everywhere I poked around I found another bank of connectors or collection of relay's......I'm becoming quite the gyneaocologist !! (y)
