Technical Alarm system in the 500?

Is there one in the 500? Or is the electronic key just an "immobilizer"?

I noticed you can have an "optional" alarm system from fiat, has anybody fitted it?

Or has anybody fitted a proper Tatcham system such as Clifford etc?

I'd like to know as London is getting worse by the minute...

shouldn't be too much, its a straight foward fit however to meet thatcham criteria all wires must be soldered/heatshrink & hidden.

what I would estimate it, not saying another garage would quote this though but I would insist on a certified installer otherwise if worse happens it could give your insurance company a excuse to not pay out.

No it would be the Fiat dealers i will ring them 2morrow and post after that!
It will give others an idea of what to pay!

Its retail work (cash!) the type any garage likes so bit of room to haggle, make sure DET or good tech aware of thatcham criteria does the job if you go ahead.

Right my dealer has said its £250 for the thatcham 2 alarm and £300 for the thatcham 1 alarm to be fitted so i know now!
What i did not know was the choice of 2 i think the best thing to do is get 3 insurance quotes 1 without ,1 with thatch 2, and 1 with thatch1 and see what difference in price,or if you want no alarm you are covered by your thatcham2 immobliser

Price difference in all the quotes won't be much I think. I personally think a thatcham rating costs more to get than it saves.

Also I think the dealer is getting confused, or it could be me, but the difference between a Thatcham 2 and Thatcham 1 system is that one is just an imobiliser, and the other is both and imobiliser and alarm I think. I might be wrong though.

no your right 2 is immobiliser 1 is full alarm.

500 (like most cars is already 2) so you just get 2to1 upgrade fitted. Dont think you save great deal in insurance but you get better piece of mind & could be first on FF to get alarm fitted to 500

Just had the leaflet from Fiat stating that the alarm which is Thatcham Cat 1 is £299 inc. fitting and VAT.

£160ish seems like a lot of money for labour as I seem to recall that someone said it was about 2 hours labour to do the job.
