Technical Airbox internals

I've just removed that little slash cut pipe from the inside of my 100HP airbox and blanked off the oval void section behind it, just wondered if anyone else has done this and what the void section behind it might be for as surely blanking it smooths the airflow.

Didn't take a look at my airbox internals yet, but do you have a pic?

Errr no as its back on the car now but its screwed on to the inside of the airbox where the air would exit in to the engine.
