Hi
My 20v turb coupe is a cat d rebuilt and is generally good but the airbag light is stuck on (airbags are ok) but I dont know the history of the problem anybody know what controls it and what to check I was told that at some time all the relays were removed and the seats is it possible that a relay or fuse is missing or knackered
Help as the local dealers want blood and lots of beer mony to even have a serious look

The airbag light latches in after it detects a fault or momentary loss of power. If the relays were pulled with the key in, or battery still connected then this could have caused the light to come on. You have to get the fault reset with a diagnostic kit first and then wait to see if it comes back on before paying for an airbag fault investigation.

The airbag is controlled by a seperate ECU - the diag socket is located behind the dash board. I think it's a red connector from memory.

You need to get this ECU reset, any mobile diagnostics guy should be able to do it for around £40. Of course if there is a genuine airbag ECU fault then the light will come on again - either way the diags should tell you the problem.

I suppoose it's worth a try disconnecting the main battery for 2 mins or so to see if this clears it (get ready to turn alarm off when you reconnect battery).

Apparently this guy is a bit handy to say the least when it comes to Fiat / Lancia diagnostics. His name is Martin, tel: 07973 951527 or 01924 437676

He charges around £30 to reset airbag ECU, and (as he is mobile) there is no need to leave the comfort of your own home. I'm not sure exactly how far a field he ventures though (he is based in Yorkshire). Worth a phone call.

Thanks
I have tried the local specialist and none of his kit will talk to the airbag controller anybody know where the power supply comes from is there a relay or something as he thinks that there is no power to the controller we dont have any circuit diagrams etc for the 20v turbo of a 1997 (R ) vintage
