Hi can anyone tell me how to acess the airbag sensors on a 2003 punto. Are they built into the seats as i cannot see any wiring below i did find the module for the airbag just left of the clutch pedal but the wiring seems to just come from the passenger side airbag.Any help would be very gratefull

Crash sensors are in the front chassis arms/crumple zone that runs either side of the engine
Other tha those what other sensors do you want?

Hi are there weight sensors in the seats and is there a seperate Ecu for the driver airbag

No, one ecu for the whole system, nothing in seats unless you have a very high spec model in which case you might have side impact airbags in the seats (big black plastic covers on the out side of each front seat) single stage airbags for driver and passenger so no need for weight sensors or seat position sensors, it's quite a basic, dumb system.

You crash both airbags go bang

That's. Great narrows things down a bit for me thanks for the help.

you dont mess with airbags unless you know what you are doing
the crash sensor is in the ecu that bolts on the transmission tunnel so needs to be attached securly with the 3 10mm headed bolts
seatbelts are worked by detent action not connected to the ecu
if you have airbags ibn the seat it tells you on the side

why not invest in the leads and free programme or pay someone to pull up your codes

ive added pictures of an ecu i opened the airbags go off when the ball bearing moves down its cage to complete the circuit like a bagatell

Hi had the diagnostic no codes logged but the airbags light still there

i had a new steerng column put in my punto mk 2 2003 last year as my power steering sensor went and ever since then the airbag light was up on the dash board for nearly a year. I started talking to a guy at work who used to work for Fiat and he suggested looking at the wiring underneath the drivers seat as when you move the drivers seat, it upsets the wiring and puts the air bag warning light on. i said this to my local garage who had the car in about 7 times for this reason and they checked the wiring (Fiat had already mended it as its a known problem that the wires can get sheared off) and they did a diagnostic and were able to clear the fault and since then - touch wood- i havent had the warning light on since. Apparantly there was a recall in regards to this from Fiat. Worth looking at.

Nope, no recall on wiring under the seats... only a bulletin stating that any wiring repair on the airbag system was to only be undertaken by the DET for safety reasons.

It's rare for mk2's to have side airbags TBH- they tended to only be in the HGT/Sporting models unless specified as an option.

ok right, mine was recalled in for the repair with the previous owner  yeah ive got a punto 1.2 sporting 16v with side airbags (i swear ive got more airbags than seats!!!)

its worth looking at anyway as when you adjust the drivers seat, it shears the wires connecting the side air bags :)

seem to have the problem solved it turned out faulty earth at the airbag module. removed cleaned the seating of the module rebolted and cleared the airbag light all good so far.All work with the module was done with the battery disconnected. Thanks for all the help guys

My airbag light continues to come on now and again..

Whenever i scan it, it says passenger airbag switch intermittent problem.

Ive unplugged the connector gave it a good clean which fixed the problem for a month or two.. but now its back with the same error.

Any ideas?
Its possible a fault in the switch or in the caseof my sons car where the airbags Ecu is situated just to the left of the clutch pedal
Behind a small plastic cover the wiring connector can get a knock im not an expert but I've been told its Common for this to happen

I know it's an old topic but can someone please help me find the crash sensor. The mechanic is a friend and i want to do this with him but he doesn't know where exactly is the sensor for the Albea

Crash sensors are built into the airbag ecu
Which is located in middle bit of the footwells in the front (behind kick pannels)

In my 2002 hgt the wires and what not are sat under the passenger seat

Dont quiet underatand here
If you have seat airbag like I think hgts do have
Then the wiring under seat is for the airbags
To have it under 1 and not the other is a little wierd though...
