Hi, Went over a transverse ridge on motorway, bit of a jolt , and the airbag warning light on dash came on and refused to go off. Handbook says something has triggered, or a fault in system. Been to Fiat dealer but they can't do it til after bank hol. Anyone come accros this problem before, and any ideas? Finally, here are some pics of my "B"

Love the b, especially the silver grills.

The airbag light is a common problem. It can come on with something as simple as sliding the seat when the engine is running. I think connections on the seatbelt pretensioners under the seats are a common cause. It will need to be reset by a Fiat dealer or a specialist with the right equipment (DTR have done mine before). I think that when the light is on the airbags and pretensioners will not work.

Thanks Doc!
The car is as I bought it so don't know about mods. In fact I didn't realise it had different headlights. Doh! I've only ever seen older cars in the flesh as there are so few around. The car has been lowered, the springs are red so I guess they are Eibach, but apart from that it seems pretty standard.
The exhaust has broken at the front of the middle box, the square one. I have done a temporary repair til I can afford a stainless system.

hi, my airbag light is also on, but i think this happen when I disconnect airbag and connect it again. i read somewhere that i have to reset something, and all will be ok then...

Thanks Doc!

The more I look at it the more different it looks. The whole front has been silvered hasn't it? That looks like a different bit that the number plate is attached to and the grills have been sprayed. It would be interesting to have a good look and see what else the previous owners have done.
How about some photos of the interior and the engine?

Thanks for the kind comments!
Under the driver's seat there is a yellow connector block with two wires that seems to be intact, and a black two-pin female plug which is just loose. Should this go somewhere or is it just spare? I can't find anything.

Have you got a hardtop? Mine has something that sounds very similar that the hardtop plugs into when it is on the make the rear heated screen work.

i believe those plugs under seats are for air bags, they are connected to seats... they will activate airbag only if somebody is sitting on them (on seats, not on plugs). :D

i do not have hardtop, but i think that plugs for heating back window is somewhere else...

Yes Bill33, next to the driver's side tensioner. I don't have a hardtop and I agree the connection for the heated screen is somewhere else. I checked all the wires again and made no difference. Guess I'll have to wait for my local dealer to sort it.
Thanks.

question for doc: so now i have error in airbag because i didn't unplug battery before i unplug airbag. is this airbag still working? or it will not activate if I hit something?

As far as I know it turns off the airbags when the system shows a fault error light. FYI: The ABS is the same.

:yeahthat:

As a safety precaution the system is de-activated as it is/can be caused by a faulty sensor - don't want to be sitting in the car park at Sainsbury's when 'bang' a faulty sensor sets the bags off!!
