Re: Stil 1.9JTD Airbag Problem (a common theme)

Hi
Had similar problem. Took into Fiat dealesrhip 8 times from Sept 03 to May 04. Finally got fixed. I had the same message on multifunction display. I was told by chief mechanic at Warrington dealership that it was a problem with the wiring loom being too tight and causing a split on the block connectors that support the airbags. (I checked the connectors like you but couldn't see any damage). This was usually caused by moving of passenger seat and rear sliding seat on my car - I have full electric pack on my 1.9JTD 115 Dynamic. Although you say this only happens when car is warm could this be coincidental. If your still having this problem just monitor what I have said and see whether it happens when seats are moved. Hope this helps.

Re: Airbag Failure: Stop Engine

I have been able to remove the airbag failure every time it has come, untill now. Simply by checking the connecters under the seats, and the one in the glove box. Disconnect them, fiddle the pins a little, connect them again, turn on ignition while crossing ur fingers.. Good luck :)

Re: airbag failure?

I have a three door Stilo and mostly when the seat is moved it comes on. I can play about with the wires under the seat to reset it. But on a recent trip to the garage the auto elect thinks that the movement of the seat is stretching the wire. H e thinks to resolve it you have to pull the cable from under the carp[et and secure it then secure the singlle wire to the sensor.

Re: airbag failure?

I used to get air bag warnings in the end on a daily basis. I don't get any at all now and that's 4 months now. See how i cured the underseat wiring in 10 mins, OCS sensor in 30minutes in the Stilo guides.
Check your symptoms to work out which cure is for you

Re: airbag failure?

hi folks, a quick word on my airbag failure issue: examiner identified OCS sensor fault, dealer says it costs cca 230 euro + their work; the problem I have identified with this OCS sensor is the following: the electronic chips of this sensor are located on the front side of the chair, burried a bit in the sponge-like material of the chair; normally I use my car as a family car, and I usually put big stuff (which do not fit in the boot) on the front passenger seat and in front of it, on the floor; for 4 years I have done this and apparently the circuit board has decided that because of all that heavy weight pushing it all the time, it should stop functioning, which it did a month ago; so for other folks in the same situation as me (family car), DO NOT PUT THINGS ON THE FLOOR IN FRONT OF THE PASSENGER CHAIR! It's expensive...

Re: airbag failure?

Yesterday my wife takes the mother in law (12 STONE) and her Auntie (12 STONE ) out shopping, of course you can imagine how many times the front passenger seat was moved, banged, slammed etc. Then my wife who is only small ( bless her) has to jack the drivers seat up to the limit, you know her head was touching the roof so that she could see over the bonnet! Then I get the phone call "The air bag warning light has come on what shallI do"Drop your mother and her sister of at the dietician`s and come home was my very calm reply.I have a 3 door 1.2 active stilo 03 plate bought it 11 july 2006 this is the second time this has happened, first time i took it back to the dealer who tweaked the connectors under the passenger seat and the fault was rectivied, any way when the wife got home i tried deckchair`s remedy but i couldn`t get at the connecters properly due to my dissability, any way I just decided to turn off the air bags with the key then turned them back on and it worked, warning light went out and so far has been fine all day, let`s see how long this last`s

Re: airbag failure?

Hi all

I have had the same problem with the warning light thing which stays on consantly, also get the stop engine message on the in dash computer display so I can't see any other on board computer messages.

All the previous post I can see seem to relate to the passenger seat, the dealer has diagnosed the Driver's seat weight sensor as the problem by which I guess he means the OCS. Also quoted me £400 to fix.

Anyone had problems with the drivers airbag? And does anyone know how to clear the stop engine message from OBC display.

Thanks JD

Drivers seat hasn't got a weight sensor so it must be the passenger side!! You could fit it yourself and save some ££ - check out Deckchair's guide here

Re: airbag failure?

ok so here is one for you, where do you recommend for buying a replacement OCS? and in the mean time can I get rid of the 'Stop engine, do not proceed message' so I can use the OBC?

Re: airbag failure?

Last week I also got the "Airbag Failure" warning. This only with a passenger, so it is most likely the OCS.

I checked the price for a new OCS and they told me there are two versions.. One for seats with leather and one for non leather seats. The OCS for leather seats would cost at least € 231, - (in the Netherlands). Since this is a serious amount of money I tried to solve the problem without buying a new OCS.

However after I removed the complete seat I tried to remove the (leather) cover. But the cover is attached to the foam with a construction of steel rings and a metal strip (or small bar) trough it.

Is there a way to remove and re-attach the leather cover without damaging it?

Re: airbag failure?

How are you planning to "solve the problem without buying a new OCS" ?
Forget putting resistances in its place, it's a computerised system in the OC sensor and the airbag ECU needs to talk to it otherwise it will flag the airbag warning

Can't help you with how to remove the leather cover although it obviously must come off, the cloth cover has elasticated hooks

Re: Another Airbag Warning

I wouldn't let them do it for the following reason; a brand-new Airbag ECU will set you back around £160. Fit it yourself (it's not too bad a job from what I can recall), get it proxi-realigned (30 mins labour, maybe an hour) and half your cost!

You could also get the ECU from a scrappy but then you don't know if you're buying dud one.
