Hello

I have a fiat punto evo and my air-conditioning isn't working, i was wondering if it could be an electrical issue as i had it re gased and the buttons would still not function.

Before it stopped work they would light up when in use.

Has anyone had a similar problem and would be able to let me know how you fixed it , it would be handy to fix as its really warm at the moment.

Thank you :)

This is what is buttons look like

The back rear heated windscreen is the first button which is still working and the 2nd and third button is related to the air-conditioning.

I'm still in the middle of investigating my boy's 2012 Punto Easy (1.4 8 valve VVT) which had working air con when bought a few years ago. Sometime since, he's not sure when, it stopped working. It's probable the gas has leaked away because he doesn't run it very often - despite being told to run it at least once a week to keep seals moist etc.

Interestingly the 2 speed radiator fan has stopped running at low speed (checked out with MES and no slow speed function). Checking it out has thrown up the resistor pack on the radiator (completely different to the heater fan resistor pack) which is heavily corroded and open circuit. I've bought a new resistor pack but haven't fitted it yet due to my boy living some distance away and needing the car for work.

The cars (Punto and Panda anyway, which are the models I know best) when fitted with air con have this resistor. The non air cons don't as far as I know. When the aircon is switched on the rad fan is fed current via this resistor so spins the fan at slow speed to pull air over the air con rad. when the engine gets too hot the resistor is switched out and full battery current is fed to the fan so allowing it to spin more effectively. I'm wondering if we'll find the aircon suddenly starts working properly when the resistor pack is replaced? I don't know if the slow speed fan operation needs to be active before the ECU kicks in the compressor clutch?

However my bet is on the system requiring a leak check and regas?

Have you tried the re-set sequence ....I don't know what it is on the punto but on my Idea it's press the Mono and the drivers Auto button together and the unit goes through a re-set countdown .... I had my Idea re gassed ,oiled and checked for leaks and it took a few goes to get the compressor clutch to click in so I re-set it ...and it work great now ....
