General  Air Bag Problems

Well on Monday MY car is going in again for the air-bags!

This is the latest try by my dealers to fix the air-bag faulty like coming on all the time!

This has been going on since last year & I`m hoping this is the final repair.

The car is going in for three days & they are getting me another MPV for the three days it is in the dealers.

Let hope this is it now!

Keggers hows your car these days?

Paul

Paul,

now have the car for 4 weeks + after they fixed the problem and so far so good:D. In the end they replaced a section of the wiring loom on the passenger side and it seems to have done the trick. If your next visit doesn't cure it I'd suggest this to them, it's not a particularly big job since I'm told it unplugs just under the dash and only requires the front seat to be removed and the carpet lifted.

keggers.

Dear all,

I am glad to find this site. I hv just bought my Ulysse in May and had the same problem :( Send it to the workshop 3 times and each time they just reset the computer. It works for 1 to 2 days and the warning sign will pop up again. Its the same problem as keggers.

Hopefully arm with this new info to show my Malaysia FIAT dealer, my agony will be shorten.

Thanks guys :D

I hope it all works out for you..... I've not had any electrical problems with mine - a few other issues, but none of them to do with the electrics/computer!

John ;)

I had a similar problem to the air bag light going on on a Passat and the dealer said it was a common thing with a poor connection across the steering wheel to its air bag. Replaced it and no more problems.

I have the air bag warning constantly flashing on my Mondeo - the 3 quick flashes indicate it is a pre-tensioner problem, not the airbag as such.

Does the Ulysse airbag light just flash or remain steady???

Fiat have stuggled with this model mainly the lack of info is due to the French connection not relaying it to Fiat, but with the car being made for the left hand drive market and converted to right the wiring looms are modified tto fit so the floor looms are LHD then under the dash its RHD so all sorts of complications arise, the airbag prob we have had on the lovely Ulysse was due to the right curtain bag intermittant value too high, so the required looms checked and rechecked and because it was a intermittant error it would go away for 3 days and then back on.Well with the help of Fiat Technical the error was trased to the LEFT curtain bag and the connector was in the roof lining so trims off lining down and the terminals were wide open so not making 100% contact and whilst all this was going on the owner was going mad because it was a taxi, but once done we only saw it once a month for lub service and minor faults not bad for a Ulysse

Well, the Ulysse airbag light remain steady...for the meantime[?]

Send my Ulysse in on Thursday and left it for the weekend, hoping that they can get the problem solve. I have ask the technical staff to look into this posting to get additional help. Anyway, went to collect my Ulysse this morning (+7 GMT), well, they said all is sorted out. Well less than 2 miles into my journey, the 'devil' flash again...[:(!] Keep the story short they said is the loose connection with the ECU and hopefully got it fixed. The workshop manager went the extra mile which is a nice touch :)

Air bags problem?? I had face it before. Do your know how it happened?
The story is like this........ My brava 1.8 ELX power steering are leaking. The foreman (unexperience....which i do not know after this) take out the hold set power steering to repair (done in 21 days). He do not know that the steering wheel need to stay at their position because below the steering wheel, there is a wiring coil (The exact name i do not know) which connect the driver airbag and horn on the steering wheel. The wiring coil will be push or get pull and broken when the steering wheel position is out.
This why the air bag light is on.........this is my story.
And a bit experience from me....the Fiat car have a lot of trap and some one (unexperience foreman or else) will facing it when he repair the car. Like open the steering wheel to fix the wiring coil. There is a hexagon nut which lock the steering wheel to the steering rod. there also a look like a clip which grab the hexagon nut.
Common sense tell that the thing look like a clip need to open before the hexagon nut.
They will broke the clip. Actually, the clip are open together with the hexagon nut together. Just simply used a spannar can open it in one minute.

Hi All,

My first post.

I arrived at your forum after i did a quick Google search regarding airbag warning lights on fiat Punto's.

My Fiat Punto 02 model has a airbag warning light that stays on and it seems from various forums that this is an inherent problem and can be a pain in the butt to fix.

I called a main dealer with this issue and was told that it would need a diagnostic check £££ but he said the airbag will still work under crash conditions even with the warning light on. He explained that the deployment of the airbag is a mechanical operation as well as a electrical operation.

Can someone confirm this to be correct? So if the electronic sensors of the airbags are buggered the mechanical activation will still work in crash?

Any advice, much appreciated

Hi everyone!

Well today when I was driving home the "air-bag faulty" alarm went off!

On my display it said "air-bag faulty" & the dash light now stays on!

Been in touch with my dealer & he said "pop it in when you can & we will check for you"

Have any of you on the forum had any problems with your air-bags?

Paul
Hey!!

Yeah my brava AND bravo have got the red airbag warning light on!!! ive already paid a lot for the Brava's light to be fixed..and they fixed it..but after a few months, it came back!! the Bravo's still needs to be fixed..

If im not mistaken, they had replaced somethin to do with the ECU for the brava...

let me know what the ppl at the garage tell you

cheers

Hi, just a thought.. do you share the driving with someone else? If the seat is constantly adjusted back and forth that can wear out some wiring under the drivers seat... (I had this fault on a peugoet) and as the Ulysse is basically a peugeot so I thought I'd post this in case it helps.;)

My airbag light is on only because I forgot to disconnect the battery when changing the radio, not uncommon. It is a Volvo S80 but it can be reset by the diagnostic port, which I will get done on its service, apparently it they still work OK.

Get someone to check the fuse box under the bonnet on the offside it corrodes and and causes problems like this. I had airbags faulty, oil level too low. oil pressure too low and the engine anti pollution warnings.
