MrD has just brought our new (new to us) Stilo1.9 JTD Dynamic home.... a few questions:

1 - It seems we've been sold a car without any spare keys. Is getting a spare (or two) simply a matter of contacting a dealer?

2 - The dash displays an "Oil level high" message which comes on when starting the car, but doesn't stay on.

3 - Finally, we don't have a handbook/manual. Again - any ideas where to go for this.

We haven't done too well here [:0] Not the best car dealer I've ever encountered..... (NOT a main dealer, we hasten to add...)

Thanks for any tips you might have.

1) keys - to get keys you will have to first make sure that the you are listed by ISR (International Security Register) as the owners of the car. Then you have to take log book and identification etc to a FIAT main dealer so that they may get the security codes for the car from ISR. There is a charge for this (around £15 I think). Once you have the security codes, the dealer will then be able to get some new keys for you and enable them on your car.

I had to go through this procedure on my Ulysse - in my case the dealer could only provide blank keys that I then had to take to a specialist key cutter to get copies - then they enabled them on the car. Bear in mind that 'remote' keys are very expensive compared to 'dumb' keys.

2) oil level - without stating the obvious, have you checked if the oil has been overfilled? - most oil level sensors only work prior to starting the engine, so I would not be surprised if it goes after starting

3) Manual - Best talking to a fiat dealer - there are 2 manuals one for the car, and one for SatNav if you have it - each one is a couple of hundred pages

Hope this helps

[8D]Thank you thank you - what a star!!!

Especially for the details about the keys (for a minute today we thought we had a Bravo 'red key' nightmare unfolding...).

Marvellous. [^]

No problem - the Stilo definitely doesn't come with a red key.

I'm not sure on the Stilo whether the keys are simplied copied and then enabled on the car, or wether the key is factory ordered. The dealer (or maybe some one else on the forum) will know for sure

1)i can understand how can they missed on such an important thing as a SPARE KEY.It's a rubbish.

3)as pjp said you should be getting two manuals, the first one for the car, but the second one for the sat nav or radio (if you do not have satnav). One more warranty book and another book for available fiat official services in all of the world.

Hi MrsD

1. Spare Keys - When I enquired, I was told that the keys on the Stilo were ordered against it's chassis number, and that I needed to take my V5 and Drivers Licence/Passport (this is what BMW have done for years). They then get the codes (to access your Car's Computer to tell it it has a new key) from the ISR, or from the Code Card (which you can order for around £9, and it saves you ever needing to contact the ISR). The difference between non-remote and remote controlled keys is about £20 (i think).
2. Oil Level High - the JTD diesels have an Oil Level Sensor with output on the dash (the petrol models dont have this read-out on the dashboard). Check the dipstick; i suspect it has been overfilled, as pjp quite rightly said. It won't stay on as it is an Oil Level Advisory, not a warning system.
3. Manuals - have to be ordered from a FIAT dealer.

I would add that you should have had the car delivered with a remote controled key and a simple one. In case that they have not done that, you should ask them to provide you a second key free of charge.

It depends on how old your car is as to which keys you get. My June 02 Stilo came with 2 remotes, but recently they are coming through with 1 remote and 1 non-remote key. Cost Cutting measures again me thinks.

You are right... I got my Stilo Dynamic last September and since January it is sold (at least here) without ESP, armrest and spotlights on the back of the cabin (the 3-door one). However I must be fare and say that the price went down as well.
