AA Tow Rope - Tesco

AA Tow Rope - Tesco

didn't realise you had to be within the limits of towing weights for your licence groups! i know someone who towed a broken car (with engine running so full braking and steering available) with a Large 4x4 but as they had passed their test after Jan 1997 and hasn't done extra courses they were breaking the law!

Crazy! Yet their old job was at a farm where they drove tractors with trailers so not exactly unskilled in towing!

Depends upon what car they were towing

Imo for the sake of a few quid, far better doing the job with the right kit.

Heres one for you all, its legal (or was when I did it) to tow a motorbike using another motorbike of equal or greater engine size. Unfortunally when I did it my mate (getting towed) took first exit on mini roundabout & I took second...both ended up on our arses in London rush hour traffic:eek:

How many cars weigh less than 750kg anyway? just looked up the 106, a 1991 1.0 weighs 790kg.

Modern Cars don't do being towed that well anyway, when the tipo broke i grew arms and legs like popeye from turning the steering wheel and braking, and that was about a mile. not sure how up to date modern cars are but can't imagine them being any better tbh!

Crazy mixed up world we live in. It's illegal to tow a car on a motorway - and yet, surely, a motorway is THE safest place to be towing?
Everything's going in the same direction, no constant stopping & setting off, no changing direction, no idiots coming up behind, flashing you for showing hazards & then overtaking & trying to squeeze into the gap occupied by the rope.

Ah, the 750kg rating. Only applies in some cases from memory (and no I can't back that up, just know I've seen it several times ).

It goes back to the whole ghey towing legistation that is full of contraictions (n)

Something to do with MAM and curb weight and other bits and bobs.

My mam never bothered when I told her I was getting a caravan :D

yeah as long as the smaller bike has equal or greater engine size.

no i ment a smaller cc bike pulls a larger cc bike.

think "honda CG 125 TOWING along a pan european" :ROFLMAO:

at first i thought it sounded funny, but if you think about it it is logical... wouldnt want someone towing a bike capable of 30-50mph with a huge bike that can get near 200 and accelerate it at speeds it would only ever see by been dropped out of a plain.

The 750kg is to do with brakes anything over 750kg being towed needs to be braked. It's such a grey area, as are most things with the Great British Government :bang:
