Hi All,
So I let a person at work drive my GP 1.2 around the area I work in (Uxbridge) Greater London. He currently owns an A3 SLINE 3.0 with all the trimmings. He was insured 3rd party only but...

So he comes back hands me the keys and I'm thinking OK he will laugh now.
But to my surprise he says "you know what...its not as powerful obviously...but that was a fun drive, for the first time in a long time I felt like I was driving..Pull off speed is not all that, but it was a fun drive and the Gear box is great very smooth, I love it."
Then I said well they do a 1.9 Sporting or a 1.4, and he said "you know what...I am fed up with accelerating then slamming on the breaks" ill go for a top spec 1.2 or 1.4, where did you get yours from?" I told him from Denkale down the road.

2 Hours later he comes back with a print out from the Fiat site, he has ordered a GP 1.4 with Eleganza Trim I think :slayer:

I asked him, but what about your Audi? he said ah Ive already got a buyer, so ill sell it and that will more than likely pay for the Fiat...
IMO thinking the GP is wooing people like mad.

But now I got a GP buddy, he keeps bugging me to let him drive the my GP, his is coming in 6 weeks he says.

Anyway I think its another feather in the GP's cap.

Jason

"Anyway I think its another feather in the GP's cap."

Thats by far one of the best lines i have hered!:p

Cool man glad for the guy.... wish i had a gp buddey lol

It's amazing how much **** I get from people when I say I drive a Fiat Punto.

Then they see it and completely change their minds.

In the pub the night I had my sporting and I quote from my friend :
"haha a fiat punto? bet it won't even get off the car park"

He shut up when I annihilated his xr3i

Hilarious. I had a brand new Escort RS Turbo in 1988 - lasted 3 months due to severe front end vibrations - which Ford Cologne could not cure. I traded it for a brand new 2.0 Honda Prelude 4WS. I don't think that are are many current 16 valve 1.0 ltr cars around that won't leave an old 8 valve 1600cc escort for dead!!!

You have to get a grip & understand that the brand name FIAT is recognised in this country as "Cheap as Chips" - & quite rightly so. My GPS 130 is a fantasticly engineered machine but the interior is absolute C**P. It is bright, shiney hard black plastic - like something made in China for a small childs toy. Even the "leather" option looks terrible & personally I decided that the cloth trim was much nicer.

Glad to hear that you managed to embarass a knackered & very old 105bhp XR3i. But what does it say about you?:bang:

jamesgamby1989 - presumably your oh so young birth date?

"tinted windows, alpine headunit, fusion woofers, vibe tweeters, interior neons, xenon bulbs, blue sidelights, rainbow indicators, momo handbrake, induction kit, debadged boot, sony xplod sub and amp NEW: personalised number plate AND momo gear knob"

WOW - wish I could afford a momo knob. After 50 years my current knob appears to be totally worn out. In fact, it doesn't seem to work at all unless I'm in the shower with the shower head on max! My fusion woofers (according to the wife) seem to be still good - but only in the early hours, after a good vindaloo! My vibe tweeters continue to embarass me whenever I attend functions (but my boss is a 34/22/34 bottled blonde, so you can understand why). My induction kit is still fine though - I can manage 2 bottles of wine & a few beers before the filter gets blocked.

I'm still impressed by your knob though.....

Well I have fallen in love with Fiat now, My Next Car will either be a Sporting version T-Jet Bravo or maybe even the top spec 500. Or whatever else is out in 2 years time. Thats how my mind is set now, but it could change.
I think Fiat are only going to get better and better.
I think no matter what you have there is always something better!!

His xr3i has 22,000 genuine miles on the clock, doesn't get driven during the winter months and is pristine condition, and in fact i've never seen one like it. Old and knackered? I don't think so. I think you need to take the boy racer view of me out of your head and realise I am a car enthusiast. True, most xr3is are sitting burnt out on an essex council estate but we are talking about a ford enthusiast rather than a boy racer.

"I don't think that are are many current 16 valve 1.0 ltr cars around that won't leave an old 8 valve 1600cc escort for dead!!!" - hmmmm

You can't possibly fairly compare a Honda engine to an old ford turbo'd engine as far as reliability is concerned. Thats like saying "yea my fiat was quick, but my ferrari was alot faster" theres no comaparison everybody knows that.

What does it say about me? It says I like to prove a point, on a clear road at a quiet time of night, cars are there to be driven, and i'll be fu*ked if i'm paying extra for a sporting and driving it all the while like my grandad.

"Even the "leather" option looks terrible & personally I decided that the cloth trim was much nicer." - no you decided the leather was too expensive, I have the leather and it is alot nicer than the cloth, i'm sure most members will agree.

And yes I am young, I'm 19 and i'm not a boy racer, I don't have neon lights or a 5" exhaust. I enjoy cars and thats it, and before I get the comment about mummy and daddy buying my car for me i'll mention that they didn't, I worked my b*llocks off and got a good career behind me.

If you don't like what other forum members do to their cars thats up to you, theres no need for mickeytaking, the majority of this forum are friendly and helpful, we don't need p*sstakers like you trying to get a cheap laugh because you can't remember your childhood.

You may have a chip on your shoulder because you may not be as spritely as some people on this forum, but don't start coming all high and mighty on me. save it for real idiots.

Chris. Don't get upset. What I said was a genuine comment.

Yes, the leather was too expensive - considering it's EXTREMELY poor quality - however, it appears to be a bargain compared to my last BMW (some £2000!).

How you "Got a good career" behind you at the grand old age of 19 is beyond me! My son is 19, has not had a job, never mind a "career" & is just about to go to University for the next 3 years (19+3 = 22 years old - before he can earn ANY money).

I don't have any chips on my shoulders & at 51 I can assure you that I am probably more physically capable than most of your age;)

I still have the GPS but last week bought an Alfa Brera. The quality is 1000% better. But, like me, you won't be able to buy a car like that for another 30-40 years as you will be paying a mortgage &/or Child Support - as I did...

I work for a good company within the construction industry. I get paid to learn part time aswell as working full time and without being big headed i'm good at what I do. By no means am I saying I am very well off but I am in a good financial position for a 19 year old, I can comfortably afford off my own back the car I drive.

Your son is opting to go to university full time which is a good investment for the future. I am fortunate that I get paid work and learn at the same time, I didn't want to get into debt and spend the remainder of my life paying it off.

I'm not trying to cause any confrontation mike, I just don't think some of your recent posts help anybody in any way.

I completely agree with Chris,

You have to question what a 51 yr old man who appears to have no interest in GP's is wasting his time even posting on here.

I would have thought it would have been "well beneath" him :D

lucky you still got the GP then as the brera will spend loads of time at dealers getting new seat bases, swirl chambers, rattles, oil warning errors, inlet manifolds, seat belts,EGR valves:)

my mate has a black alfa brera 2.4 m-jet its always in for 1 thing or another last week it was in the garage because 1 of the valves wasn't working properly.as for build quality its not without fault there are cheap and nasty bits in the interior of that to they definitely don't belong in a car that price.its a beautiful car as is the GP both by giugiaro very similar in exterior design as for arguing and disagreement debating call it what you want aint that what a forums all about.if you dont like what someone says your entitled to say so cant be nice all the time.as for the gps interior the design of it is very nice but quality is very much lacking, leather included

as for arguing and disagreement debating call it what you want aint that what a forums all about.if you dont like what someone says your entitled to say so cant be nice all the time

very true...but you do get (and i'm not saying mikez328 here as I haven't read this thread through closey yet) argumentive types, there is also the other side of the coin that states if you have nothing helpful/constructive (or funny) to say then dont.Personally I like all the 'banter' but i'll stop it when it gets personal.

Back to the brera...I like driving it & it does look good but i'd never buy one cause of the depreciation, dubious build quality (for a car of this price) and lack of dealers.....unless I was a millionaire.....well ok a multi-millionaire :D

As far as the GP...well you do get a basic interior after all its a cheap car,you dont get blue & me/abs/air-con for nothing so corners are cut but I feel the GP interior is ok with controls easy to hand & cluster clear to read which is important to me but i'm not everybody.

I do apologise for any arguments but to be honest it's nothing personal and I quite enjoy it.

But yes you do get argumentative types, and if you read this thread (and others) you will see that there have been completely unprovoked negative personal comments made by a certain member which I find to be no use to anybody. Opinions are opinions but there was no need for some of the things said, hence yesterdays banter between me and an unnamed member. I have not written his name at the bottom of this post in white.

MIKEZ328!!!

I am a little confused why we are comparing a brerra and a GP. I mean should we not be comparing 3 sportings to one? No wonder you are getting a better quality car.
All i can add to this is that at 23 and buying my own car out right the sporting is a very nice car I like the cloth interior personally, not really seen the leather one, but have got to ask why some one who has bought the punto is critising it so much i mean you must have seen the interior when you test drove it.
