Just found these pics from last year and thought I would post them up as a warning to owners of 1.9 diesel engined Fiats.

ALWAYS CHANGE THE WATER PUMP WHEN YOU CHANGE THE CAM BELT

or this might happen

Basically the failed pump pushed the cam belt into the covers which it then carved through, luckily the belt didn't jump or break or it would have been bye bye engine

Enjoy,

it really applies to almost all makes and models of cars these days, renault engines water pumps would seize and burn through the cam belt wrecking the engine long before any warning signs, many other french cars are the same, most italian engines come from fiat and all use similar technology so this warning applies to all. (except the 1.3 multi jet which has a separate water pump)

anyway i though posting these up would act as a nice pictorial prompt to anyone thinking they would save a couple of quid, its really not worth it.

annoyingly we bought the car with a new belt and no new water pump, which failed 5 months later:doh:

Edit: Should have read your post properly before I replied
