General 899cc top speed

Fiat say it wont go any faster than 87mph[xx(]

Has anyone achieved better than this?

My 9 year old Cinquecento with a tilting sunroof fully open and drivers window a tad open achieved way above 95mph on a relatively zero gradient M1 today. I do believe it will go faster too. My engine is not tuned at all.

My mum had 87 out of mine on the day i brought it![:0][:0]

Since then, I put a K+N on and the most Ive got is 85. But she has driven it after I put it on and claims to have done more than 87, but I was not there to see it, so im not unconvinced that im having my leg pulled....if only as she wants the one-up-manship!!

well ive managed 110 in my cinq sporting with K&N n Exhaust rekon it'll go a bit further with the chip but it screams at that speed lol i kno Fixit has maxed his speedo out @ 120

There was an article about a bloke who got done for a genuine 91 in his standard 899 S a while back.. claimed it wasn't possible!

not a cinq, but I got my standard Sei the other side of 100 (slight gradient) and ive done 90 with 4 people inside.

ive had 99 out of mine, downhill tho, but on the flat had 90 out of it.

smurfhead, remember that speedo's can legally be up to 10% out, so your 95mph could in fact be more like 86.

I doubt it is this far out, but worth considering.

Other things to consider - was the wind behind or in front of you, what fuel were you using, how well run in is your engine, was the gradient *exactly* zero (even slightest gradient will help).

And finally remember car's are built to certain tolerances. If you took 10 brand new seicento's and put them on a rolling road I doubt that their bhp figures would be exactly identical. And I VERY much doubt that if you took 10 9 year old identical cinquecentos and put them on a rolling road that their bhp figures would be identical.

Every manufacturer has tolerances, and Fiat are likely to allow more variation than BMW etc.

On the private airfield that is coincidentally called M45 I managed to get approx. 97mph in a standard 900S with a small downhill gradient.

Life feels good.

i got a standard 1996 900sx with 39k on the engine, on a slope managed to hit the top end of the clock, when it leveled off, about 95. it recently had the head skimmed.

i got a sei with a K&N i took mine off the clock on a very slight gradient on the M62. would of taken a photo but too scared to let go of the wheel. got a mate as a witness though.

My speedo is not dodgy. It reads perfect. I had this calibarted and tested recently due to it "wiggling" in low numbers.

I might have achieved this speed too as I was slipstreaming at the time.

Slipstreaming would help - cinquecento's are not known for their aerodynamics.

Your speedo can be up to 10% out without being classed as dodgy - most cars are out by the odd percent. Although its unlikely its 10% out, 4 or 5% could be easily possible. At 30mph it wouldn't make much of a difference (1mph or so, almost unnoticeable), but at 100mph it'd put it out by 5mph and suddenly makes a differnce.

Odd, but ICI Wilton's radar detector says my speedo reads 4mph high at 30, and Santa Pod says it reads 4mph high at 74. And I've seen 121[:0]

This probably sounds completely retarded, but if I was to tune my car so it goes faster than 100mph, would lthe needle break on the dash? (my speedo tops at 100mph).

ive had my sei sporting off the clock going downhill in sheffield, but i really dont think i was actually going at 120 (possibly 110 tops?)

One better to add to the arguement...........I got 95 out of my SX with 3 people in it, and enough camping gear to choke an army on the flat overtaking my mates 1000cc Fiesta. Down a hill with wind behind I got about 98 before I shat myself and slowed down!

It was so funny watching the caravan-towers[V] Faces as I shot past!!
