Hi
We purchased a Fiat Panda 1.2 Pop in May this year. We started to look for a cheap secondhand run-around, but soon got worn down in that process. So instead looked to new and a good deal on finance. We wanted, cheap, cheeky , 5dr, small, economical.
We dropped on a pre-reg Panda 1.2 Pop, white, red dashboard, silver mirror caps, free mats and boot liner and child seat. £6999 with 5yrs 0%. Happy days. Dealer knowledge of product seemed poor, inc not knowing the service schedule for the car etc. No test drive.
Picked-up. Generally impressed with the build and finish. Little bit shocked on engine willingness - wasn't expecting a rocket ship, but it seemed a bit under whelmed. Liked the funky red seats and red dashboard combo. Liked the comapct size and five door access and space. Driving seemed ok.
5000mls and 6months later. Engine has free'd up loads and generally very willing little engine, doesn't mind being pushed a bit and puts in a good turn of speed. We think the form and function of the new Panda is so well keyed into general little family life - excellent. 47mpg overall - mostly town driving, with a few long trips. Holds its own on the m-way and dual-carriageways, just push the engine a bit, and stir the gearbox on hills. Cruising at 80 is fine. Quality inside and out seems good - its living upto family life well, with no concerns on wear or breakage etc. A bucket of soapy suds for the outside and hoover / damp cloth inside - has kept it looking as new.
Oil is halfway between the marks, so i'll get an oil change and filter before the winter now, and fit some winter tyres too. Only fault that needs correction, is a dashboard rattle in the centre near the windscreen area i think - known problem i think?
So i reckon we'll keep this little Panda for the 5yrs tbh, i know requirements change as time goes on, but i can't see what we'll need from a little run-around (second car), that the Panda doesn't offer tbh. I also can't see why in this mode of transport, we'd need more than the 1.2 Pop version (which keeps the price very low). Others are more technically advanced and more equipment, but the economy/perf is good on the 1.2, and the Pop is ok - we got through a decent summer without aircon, because white and red seats etc - keep fairly cool.
This is the first Fiat we've owned, and we're well pleased.
