Hi mates,

I've seen on the Novitec site, that they offer a 5gear to 6gear conversion for the small ferrari we own.
But as usual they seem to be high priced (8-900Euro). Does anyone know where to get it cheaper?
(example www.bielstein.com short 5th gear 66Euro and novitec charges something like 160Euro for exact the same)

Prost,
Marc

Wow another Marc! :)

These 6 speed conversions, is it just an extra gear added, or are the whole lot changed? What I'm trying to say is, will the 6 speed box give the same aceleration as the 5 speed but with a greater top speed? Or are all the ratios changed so that it gives a faster acceleration throughout every gear?

Marc

Hi,

to be honest I don't know?
The picture on the website www.novitec.com seems like the change all gear ratios, but how etc???
What I'm looking for is (as I have a 10% shorter 5th) something that will work as a long 6th for me (stock 5th or the long 5th as 6th) for making faster autobahn travel quieter.
Anyone having a hint?
Marc

I don't know how much of the old Panda lives on in the Sei, but its 5 speed box is mechanically similar to the 4 speed, the difference is a small section bolted on the end*, which contains the fifth gear pair - they are first off when you dismantle one, and could be changed as a pair without going too deep into the 'box.

The Sei might be different / your kilometrage may vary. :D

*the main and secondary shafts are longer too, to reach into this extra bit, and carry the extra gears.

You can use the 6 speed Punto gearbox fitted to one particular model (55 elx maybe? anyone?) which is apparently a simple swap with only the selector mechanism to change over. It apparently gives the same 5th and a longer 6th. I haven't done it, so can't write a big article for anyone, m'afraid!

Yeah i heard this aswell, UAD did this to one car as i bought his old gearbox when i smashed mine.
The gear selector is **** easy to swop, undo five bolts and lift it off, put the 5sp one on line up the teeth and bolt it down.

Who cares about my post count - it's all about quality not quantity!!
(at least thats what i tell myself anyway)

first of all you can't i repeat you can't fit the 6 speeder from the punto cause the shel of the gearbox is longer thus when turning right the wheel will hit on it!!! and second the 6'th gear on the punto was nothing more than the 5'th you already have the just stuck the ratios more closely for better flexibility!!! Try geting a longer 5'th it will do the job better cheeper believe me i have tryied.[)]
face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:

Hi,

I know that a longer 5th will get the rpm down, but then there will be a big gap between 4th and 5th.
I like the was they are now (10% shorter fifth), but want an additional 6th for long distance.

how much roughly did it cost you to get your shorter 5th fitted blitzen?

Hmmm hard to tell as I got a few other things fitted at the same time.
But I was told that it is easy and fast to do. If I remember correctly they said it will take less than an hour.

BTW, Punto 6 speed box - 5th is about the same as a Cinq's 5th, and 6th is taller.

if so pete would it be that worthwhile? i find that 5th is where the sei struggles most, it nips thru 1st to 4th fine but 5th just seems too long imho.

muhahaha! come for a drive in the 1242, 80 to 100 is a bit quicker than you're used to!

I'd like a taller 6th, as it's easy to hold 95. It's just that you've got 5000+ revs on.

[:(!] yet still no point in me swapping it - i haven't done much more than 16k miles so it would be a waste to stick a 1242 in at the minute [:(!]

now that IS tempting, but still it is madness to remove an engine that has done so little mileage

Is the Punto 6speed box fitting?
Or is there another possibility of add. a 6th gear?

Yeah - as Matt said the Punto 55 EL 6 speed box fits. Apparently you need to change over the selector mechanism on the top of the 'box, but otherwise it's easy, allegedly.
