I need bigger car to replace Punto and used 500x from year 2015-2018 seems to be best option.

Is Multiair or Etorq better engine in long run?
I really like how Etorq drives, very smooth compared to any modern turbo engines including Multiair. But does it have any problems, like oil consumption etc? I'm little worried as it is developed from same Tritec as crappy PSA-BMW Prince, which I have bad experience. They all seem to be very oil thirsty engines even in low mileage.

Multiair is probably always a good choice as it is FIRE-engine based? I haven't heard that newer models have Multiair problems anymore. Do they have any common faults?

I also have Jeep Renegade in my mind as second choice. Is it worse or better than 500x?
It has little more ground clearance which would be great on bad dirt roads and forest roads. It also have better shaped boot for transporting big boxes etc. Like Punto and Panda has.

Nobody in Finland seems to know anything about Etorq-engine and Renegade.:<

E-Torq and Prince are unrelated. No idea if the E-Torq is developed from the old Tritec mini used to use but the prince is the old PSA TU with additional German engineering.

Well this changes everything. I think, it is Etorq then. It was so pleasant to drive, almost like Punto 1.2 8v.

From what I looked up all I can see is the E-Torq is a more heavily developed Tritec but it is still very old-school.

This could be seen as good or bad...it's unlikely to be efficient but it's probably easier to keep alive.

I’m driving my etorq since new. Now 85k miles, just replaced discs and pads for first time. No oil use between changes. Had a a/c compressor replaced under warranty. Great car for me.
Thank you for sharing your experience on Etorq. Why did you choose Etorq over Multiair? How is your fuel consumption?
I haven't bought car yet. Still looking for opinions on engines.
I really like both engines, but Etorq is probably more like 1.2 8v Fire, simple and robust. But it isn't "genuine Fiat".:<

Typical mileage is 40-41 mpg mixed use local and motorway. Price was my determining factor. As for not being genuine Fiat ( your words) it is true the engine was developed from a bmw , but they have produced millions ( in Brazil) and it is the best selling engine in South America !
