Hello all

My rotor seems rather worn at the tip and shoes signs of having been overheated (I did have some cutting out problems last time I used the car, too).

I had a new arm handy in a box marked for use on 500L and 126. The 500 arm is larger and round and the 126 type is smaller and just a straight segment. The locating key on the underside is in the same place on both rotors.

However, the 126 arm will not fit under the distributor cap of my 500L; the arm is too tall. Is this correct, so that in effect the 126 and 500 arms are not interchangeable without modification?
Pictures of the arms are visible in this thread here:

Many thanks

Hopefully someone else can remember and guide you there...

Not much help but hey...

I looked on the site too but the search was unsuccessful. All pointers welcome.

Cheers

Thanks but I'd linked that one in my original post! It's the rotor that's the problem.

Thanks again
I doubt there is sufficient material on it to shorten.

Some new rotor arms a tight fit on the distributor and require a little friendly persuasion to get them home. Check where the base of the old one sits compared with the new one.

Very good point. The smaller rotor arm was much tighter so I had to push more. Still projects higher because the stem is longer and the key-way is more or less the same depth.

Now fitted a large disc type rotor and went in well. seems to fire up nicely now, with the electronic ignition added, previously it would not start with various different condensers and coils!

Need to time it properly of course.....
