Best bet is a reconditioned gearbox and fit a new clutch with it.

They supply it on exchange, so yours goes back to get reconditioned for the next customer.
You should get at least 12 month warranty and hopefully they've used better quality bearing than Fiat did!

Prices start around £375 upwards to supply.

My local gearbox specialist charges £350+vat to supply one.

You might find someone to repair yours but you'll want them to strip it down and recondition it all anyway, I wouldn't be happy if they just identified an input shaft bearing and replaced that and there's more possible damage inside. To do that you'll have to wait for them to do it.

Unless you can test a used one, I'd steer clear unless your budget is really, really tight.

The guy is off to a local gearbox specialist will they have one to swap with? Silly question maybe but this is new to me!

I just need my car back on the road!

Maybe they'll have an exchange unit, or if they can easily get the parts, they may be able to turn it around quite quickly. I've known these sort of shops refurbish a gearbox in 24hrs, replacing all the bearings and synchro rings. The best person to answer this is the guy who took it to the gearbox specialist - he must have some idea what kind of resolution they're likely to be able to offer.

Once again, condolences - you seem to have had nothing but trouble from this car.

I dread to think how much you've spent on it in total, and now it's up on blocks again. I do hope they are able to find a good solution for you that isn't going to break the bank.

Thanks JK yup a real Lemmon this one! All my own fault being clueless at the time!

And a seller of course whom have obviously not used a very good garage to give the car a clean bill of health!

Too many issues in under a year for this to have gone completely unnoticed by their garage surly!

That's the thing with used cars, you just never know.
You can do your best checking it out, buy low mileage with lots of service history and they still go wrong, it can happen with new cars and even though it's under warranty it can become a battle between you, the dealer and the manufacturer/importer to get it fixed and that's pretty sole destroying.

It's unfortunate to buy one with a large list of problems but it sounds like you're chipping away at them, even though some jobs are turning out expensive.

You're not the first to suffer, I bet nearly everyone on here that's replied to this post has bought a used car and thrown far more cash at it to fix it than you will have, I have and not just once!:D

You might feel like you're at the end of your tether with it and think once it's fixed, I'm getting shot of it as it's just been all agro. Trouble is, what do you replace it with, another used car with a list on unknown problems?
You've already invested in turning your Lemon into a Peach, it might not be wise to move it on and start again with another Lemon!

At 41k it's unusual it suffer a gearbox failure, it's either had a had a leak in the past or it's a manufacturing problem, perhaps a dodgy bearing was fitted when it was built, though you'd never know and neither would anyone else really if it drove ok when it was bought.

Your mechanic won't want it sat up on his ramp for too long (it'll cost him business) and you sort of know what options you have and the sort of costs involved (which is a hell of a lot less than perhaps a different car's gearbox), so hopefully it'll be back on the road soon.

All good I certainly wouldn’t give up on my car!
Recon gearbox should be ready to fit tomorrow!
I have had bigger issues in the past as some of you are aware [emoji23] so really this shouldn’t make me sweat! And the clues were already there! Easy to miss though when your a carer for an elderly parent!!

On the up side this garage have been fantastic... kept me updated and found solutions.. unlike some places I’ve been to in the past
Worrying is the worst part of car issues! Thankfully I wasn’t in limbo too long!

Will update when I know more!

Having found this garage seems to be a lucky streak that should make your life a bit easier in the future. A light in the dark:idea:

All done!!! Passed MOT with flying colours! No advisories
Had a full service
Brake fluid change
Reconditioned gearbox
Clutch kit
The car feels AMAZING to drive! Obviously I noticed the difference immediately

Feels so dam good to find a garage I feel like I can trust & that listen to me!
Not to mention keep me updated and work quickly [emoji304]

Hi,
Is your display saying your next service is now due in 365days and 9300 ish miles?

If so then you have reset your service display.

Cheers
Jack

The car will now count down from 365 days and shout at you in a year. If don't go far, change oil in 6 months and keep paperwork. I do. (y)

So.. in a thousand miles of driving.... it would need 4 garage visits

I KNOW its a 'baby Ferrari'

But dont think thats how it works ;)

Yeah I was thinking last night it don’t sound right [emoji23]
Either way I’ll just get interim after 6 months as I don’t do many miles
On the up side my SS started working again this morning [emoji23]
