500 500 New joiner

Hello everyone,

New joiner today, although we’ve had a 500 in the family for around 5-6 years (a 2011 1.2 Lounge). The car has fundamentally been used by both my daughters as their first car. Thought it would be useful for me to join the forum to ask questions and utilise the knowledge base these forums contain. I am a “veteran” of a couple of other forums so I am well aware of the value of gold mine information hidden within these places.

Unfortunately the 500 is not the best served by members Adding GUIDES.. wrong type of owner generally

But at the top of 500 section you will see plenty on the FAQs

As a recent 500 purchaser..after 20+years of pandas.. the obvious failures / items to watch are :

Door handles.. weak design.. adding lubrication to the hinge pin might help

Rear hatch wiring.. opening and closing stresses wires... not a maintenance item as such.. wires snap over years causing weird electrical issues


Rear suspension - corrosion
Keeping it clean..free from mud .. and preserving a paint finish should get 10+ years before an expensive failure


Coolant circuit for 1242cc petrol engines is crucial... check levels regularly AND look for leaks while you can
