My brand new 500 has been keyed overnight! I'm devastated to be honest, I've had it less than 2 months, and live in a quiet little town near Bath. And I don't have any spare money to get it sorted.

I'm so sorry to hear that, I'd be really upset if it were my car. There are some nasty, jealous people out there.
Is it worth claiming on your insurance, I know there'll be an excess to pay but you need to get your car fixed.
Have you reported it to the police? They'll probably be unable to catch the culprit but at least they'll have to count it as an offence for their annual returns to the government.

B@stards

how bad is the damage? Get some pictures up when you can bare to look at it...

You need to get something on it ASAP if its down to the metal you dont want rust taking a hold...

Short term got a tub of vasaline? go smear it over the scratch this will help seal the metal until you can get some touch up paint,.....

What colour is the car?

fiat sell the correct touch up paint for most common colours...

http://www.fiat-accessories.com/fiat-500-and-500c-touch-up-paint-pen

or

http://www.cartouchuppaints.co.uk/products/Kit-2-with-Lacquer-Gloss-Finish.html

or your dealer should help....... you might need the paint code which is on a silver sticker open your boot look at the passenger side boot lid edge....

https://www.fiatforum.com/500/288388-paint-code-location.html?p=2915151

when the paint arrives remove the vasaline with hot soapy water then wipe down ideally with a solvent

celulose thinners will not harm factory paint (ALWAYS TEST on a small area first where you cant see (eg bottom of the door) just to be on the safe side

wipe clean and allow to flash dry eg

https://www.wilcodirect.co.uk/product/primers/tetrosyl-paint-thinners-250ml-tin

then a few very fine artist brushes

take a look at this

the thinners can be used in place of their special solvent on standard touch up paint

there is also this but i really would advise to avoid wet sanding unless you really know what your doing as you can make matters much worse

which should tidy it up until you can afford to have it done by a pro :)

I hadn't even considered the rust factor, great. Thanks for the warning though.

It's Chillout Purple, a nice common colour - not! I'll do some pictures tomorrow when it's light. But the scratch is on the driver door and really visible.

Please report the incident to your local police station so that you can at least get a crime number. If you want to make an insurance claim, you'll have to get a crime number anyway. You might also have to give a statement, but it really is nothing to worry about.

Really sorry to hear that Rachel : /
I hope you can get it sorted.

Fiat don't do chill out purple as a touch up paint as yet (I asked last week) but I do have the paint code. It's 528. A body shop will be able to make some up for you (y)

Not necessarily, OP might have higher priorities.

I'd be absolutely devastated if that were my car though :(

I wasn't saying that repairing her car should come before buying food or paying her mortgage, I was just concerned that the car could rust during the forthcoming Winter and reminding her that insurance is not just for crashes and thefts.

There really are some scum out there. Can't see what anyone gets from doing this.

There's a road I often walk down where the cars were keyed or had their mirrors kicked off every couple of weeks. Hasn't happened for a while, so hopefully the waster has died or something.

Absolutely gutting. Had it done to a one day old car in bath a few years back.

Gutting.

I've reported it to the police to get a reference number.

Now I don't know how to proceed. Because it's such an unusual colour I'm scared of letting anyone touch it, has anyone had any experience of this sort of thing?

There goes Christmas...

A scumbag bent the rear edge of my front door in using a key pressed against the front edge of the back door, and besides the dent flaked the paint quite badly. I took it to a repair shop used by lots of dealers, including Fiat, and they took photos, took it in for a day and mixed the right paint (from the Chassis number), and now I can't see where the damage was. They also touched up a scratch on the bumper that I bought the car with. It cost just under £50 and they gave me the remainder of the paint in a little tin.

I was very happy, but like you terribly hurt when it happened.

There are nasty jealous people out there unfortunately.

I'd go to a reputable repair/paint shop and see what they say.

Can it really be done well for so cheap? Most things online have said at least a few hundred pounds!

Firstly, im really sorry to hear this.
Secondly, it can be done cheap but i think chillout purple is metallic (please correct me if im wrong).
If it is, it needs blending and so therefore more area needs spraying.
It is right in the middle of the panel? It could be costly but its worth going to a well recommended bodyshop.

I hate how peoples minds work, scum.

I'm so sorry to hear that. A few years ago mine got done when someone decided to do all the blue cars in the street leaving the white car parked in the middle of us untouched. They made sure they got every panel from front to back and they dug deep. We were suspicious that it wasn't random and that all they had to go on was blue and wasn't expecting more than one that night in that area as we were just there visiting friends.

It feels terrible and It's a really nasty thing to do. I hope you can get it sorted.

It depends on the scratch but a couple of hundred sounds like way too much!

I was thinking more around the £100 mark depending on where you go. Not sure how far out of bath you are but I went to body shop in chromhall a few weeks ago. Their price was fair and I also got to keep the excess paint they didn't need to use :)

Who was that? I'll have a look. I know that area fairly well, I used to live in Thornbury. I just want to make sure the colour is exactly right, especially as I'm doing one of those pay monthly things so the car technically isn't mine yet! I don't want them to notice straight away if I go back.
