My Stilo is 5 years old and done 55K. It also has a slight leak on the radiator, loud knocking noise on turning steering wheel, dealership said need suspension greased?? Rusting exhaust back box and I presume 5 years is cam belt time?

So how much roughly at an indy should I be paying for :-

Cam belt change...should other stuff be done too whilst out?

New exhaust, have been told before as original exhaust need centre and back changed as one part?

New radiator

Could knocking noise when turning wheel be anyting else, doesn't do it when driving, just when stationery and turning wheel. Also I have loud banging when reversing at speed...any ideas?

60k service price minus Cam belt cost!!!?

I think I need to change my car!!!

Any price estimates gratefully received as would like rough idea, will I get change out of £1k?

Thanks and happy new year to all

Last time I looked at my suspension which was yesterday I saw no grease points so the dealer is talking through his hat on this one at least.
Cam belt change about 150. Exhaust 60-120 for parts depending where you go for the parts.Check on shop4parts or buypartsby for price . (ar you sure its not waterpump -worth replacing at cambelt change time at around 30 for pump.) Knocking could be bottom link of wishbone cost about 40 for part (but up to 90 for OE) 60k service parts excl cambelt are about 45 . A whole days labour for this lot probably could be more. A biggish bill but still cheaper than a new car. You wouldnt get much for a 5 yr old stilo remember. Where are you located? My independent is 15 years Fiat experience very good and reasonable.

If looking for prices then Search the Forum as you'll find lots of info.

As 850kd suggests, you need to locate a good Fiat specialist and try to keep on top of issues before they get serious.

Changing your car will just make some dealer happy.

I had this ''boomimg'' suspension noise a couple of years ago, dealer stripped down all of front suspension greased it and charged me £80!!!

The noise stopped for a whole 6 months! Then returned exactly the same?! So not worth paying for grease for 6 months fix.

Anyone heard of this strip down of front springs before?

Also any pice estimates for all of the above. Looking around am I right in roughly...

New Cam £200 to £300

Radiator £200

60K service £100

Exhaust back and middle £200

All above fitted inc labour???

TOTAL £700 ish???

Cheers

Interesting Quotes

My wife had her 5 year service last year in August. She Paid

£260.00 for cambelt service which included a water pump, cam tensioner, Aux belt and aux pulley and rest of car was serviced.

She had a new radiator in the past when the Stilo was 4 years old, that cost £190 including fitting and coolant.

Both of the above was done at a specialist Fiat Independent using fiat parts only.

As far as the exhaust goes, she has only changed a back box and pipe and that was with National tryres and costed £78 fitted.

Doing front springs is a DIY job, expect to pay about £35 per spring. Has your car had the spring recall though, you might get FIAT to fit new springs for you as some were failing.

How long will garage need car for 5 yr service, cambelt and new radiator? Will that be longer than a day?

Thanks

The exhaust is double skinned anyway, although the outer skin is ok doesn't mean you need to change it, wait till it blows then just take it to an exhaust centre but shop around, once you get the back box done you may as well get the middle section done too as when they pull and tug on the back box they normally damage the flexy pipe which can't be repaired.

How many miles between cambelt changes for stilo 1.6 16V?

Seems rather high! I'm sure it's only listed as a 2 1/2 hour job at the most, and parts aren't crazy prices.
That's what I thought, although I am fairly new to this business looking through the other posts it does seem high. I've asked for clarification on the cost as I was also asking about fiatcare in the same enquiry. I'll let you know when I get an update.
