Technical 4x4 (dis)engaging

Help! My 4x4 keeps engaging even though I don’t want it to, bonus is that the light on the dash keeps being lit. Already changed the “linkage” to be tighter but no positive results yet. Noticed it because I suddenly couldn’t go over 60kph. Much appreciated!

Are you saying that you put it in 4wd and drive a little ways, then it just pops out?

Since the light is staying on, something might be buggered up in the linkage area, along with the sensor that tells you if it is engaged or not.
