is there any difference boring out a 55 tb to 40mm than boring out a 60 1242 one to the same? can the 55 be bored out the same to 40mm?

It makes no differance whatsoever which TB is used as they are drilled out and sleaved to make the 40mm TB. So if you have both send the smaller 55 30mmTB away to be made into a 40mm one and sell the 32mm to someone who can't afford/isn't prepared to buy the 40mm one.

can any one tell me do you tell insurance?

FFS Beau, you ask this every time a mod is mentioned  What were you told before? :)

i wouldnt declare one to my insurance

Then you would be stupid :)

Any mod must be declared to the insurance co - if they find out a mod has been made and not declared, they would have every right to invalidate your policy - which could land you in all sorts of bother (n)

they dont really sound any different with a standard air box.. will probably give a more throaty noise with an iduction kit.

as for telling insurance. better to be safe than sorry but its not something anyone would be able to tell you have unless they know its there. it looks identical to the standard TB unless you start taking it apart and measuring things, which an accident report engineer isnt going to do, infact they probably arent allowed to unless its specificaly envolved with the accident. however if they pop the bonnet and see a shiny K&N or GSR etc, its pretty obvious its there.

I can fully understand that, but it would also invalidate it if it had one on when i bought my car and i didnt know about it. The only reason i wouldnt declare it is because being 17 and just passed my test, any mod like that would raise my insurance to over £3000 per annum. Again, i know you'll say 'well you shouldnt put one on', but then again, its not very likely that a crash report engineer would be able to tell. I can fully see you're point, and i know that if i could afford one AND insure it then i would have it, but at the min my car is insured as TPFT and thats ridiculously priced as it is.

I can tell you now that having an 'insurance offence' endorsement will make it virtually impossible to get decent insurance while you have that endorsement, which is 3 to 5 years, depending on the insurer. A lot of them will just laugh at you and refuse to quote. Ask H if you don't believe me :) (not that H has any insurance endorsements to my knowledge :D)
I find it highly unlikely that you would buy a car and not know it has an uprated TB for example - it would be a selling point as far as the seller's concerned and would advertise this fact.

Im not contradicting myself, believe me i do agree with you that insuring it is the best option, its just i personally wouldnt as i couldnt afford to buy AND insure, and yes there are stupid things that people forget to tell when they sell cars, although i am only 17 i have owned around 15( and a half:p ) cars as i have bought them at sales or off customers of my fathers business then sold them on, and most of them failed to tell me little modification they had put on, like my Morris Minor, the pervious owner had put a mk2 escort rear axle on it and had a custom prop haft machined to match. Its unlikley but it happens

cheers fella's, so basically except for rebuilding the tb tricker simply bores it out and fits a larger butterfly?
in a list
1. bore out the tb to 40mm
2. source a larger butterfly to fit the new bore
3. rebuilt it
4. refit with new gaskets
cheers again for help

how much would i get back for my 32mm tb off my 60 then?
