just been getting quotes for a 36000 3rd year service cheapest so far is £280 anybody have any idea why its more expensive than earlier ones what extra work is involved
Also after how many miles does the timing belt need changing

Hi - out of interest, what engine/model do you have? Obviously a 1.2 is going to be different to a 2.4, and likewise with a JTD.

My 3rd year service not due until July, so will be interesting to see the comments.

And as for timing belt, 36k is way too early. Have a look in your service book :)

Service prices also vary from dealer to dealer and area of county your in.

1st yr on mine was £149

as for timing belt on the Stilo schedule its 72k or 5yrs... if I can locate the service report I will scan it.

side note maybe a nice idea to have service prices from around the country for 1,2 & 3yrs as a comparison?

Good idea, I have invoices for my 1st and 2nd year to hand [came with the car and FSH], so will dig them out and post them up.

At least we may be able to play dealers off against each other ;)

Click here for indicative servicing cost for the majority of the Stilo range - the info was supplied by my local dealer in Peterborough and gives a ballpark figure you should expect to pay.

As the page states, the variation in costs between dealers is down to regional variations in labour rates - the menu pricing only applies to the service parts and not the labour.

Always worth ringing around as there was a difference of around £45 between the cheapest and most expensive quotes within 40 miles of Peterborough.

fyi just booked in my 2.4 for its 60k service. £184.50

Abarth 5 door

1st year service - £155.36
2nd year service - £276.95

Different garages, I won't post their names but they were both main dealers.

Anyone know if servicing has to be carried out by a main dealer to maintain the 3rd year warrenty. I have a local Alfa/Fiat specialist I would rather use.

The Fiat Service job sheet ( as well as the Aftercare booklet highlights the service schedule and what the check/change )

Purple... cheers for that breakdown ;)

as for 3rd year warrenty if I have read it right you can use a non-main dealer so long as whoever you use, use fiat materials in the service and follow the schedule. ( may get corrected on this tho )

ok, third year service appears to involve less then the second year service but it costs £85 more on the 1.6 with aircon. I dont get that. It also appears to do less then a standard garage service offered by the same dealer

Is the service requirement for the warranty 1 month + / - & 1k + / -?

As in mine is 1 yr old 13/3 so I can get it done between 13/2 & 13/4?

Is this +/- tolerance in the handbook, service boook anywhere?

I've had 3 quotes so far ranging from £98 to £145.

Yep, in order for the warranty to stay 'intact' the car should be serviced +/1 1000 miles or +/- 1 month whichever comes first.

Not sure if it is stated in the handbook, but it was the one statement that was consistent amongst all the dealers I contacted for sevicing prices.

You're right its not in any Fiat literature! No doubt when it comes to a warranty claim there'll be a different set of rules!

There seems a big diffrence between price of 1st year to 3rd year service when the the only diffrence seems to be visual inspections of oil and timing belt

On 3rd year/ 36,000 mile service you have to check the condition of the timing belt, so covers off etc to check it properly.
Air filter on petrol engines-not so bad to fit, check rear pads-wheels off, and brake fluid if not done at 2 years/24,000 mile, also gearbox oil level- top up if required.

Thats about 10 minutes extra work then?

Just been quoted by a none franchised fiat Specialist (McEwens of Derby) £170 for the 3 year 36,000 mile service, Didn,t think that was too bad. (y)

(1.6 Stilo Dynamic By the way)

this seems like such a con to me....
i am taking my 1.6 dynamic in to bostons of milford on monday because the engine warning light has come on and rev's seem erractic.
i asked about the 3rd year service while i was on the phone and they gave me a price of 280 quid!
i am not happy this , the car has only done 23000 miles so most of the stuff wont need doing.
i have new alloys and tyres and a k&n induction kit so thats sum things that wont need replacing straight way......
