500 (Abarth) 2017 Abarth 595 'aka Gloria'

Introduction

Gloria was my Mum's car, who passed away recently. It was the only brand new car she ever bought and she loved it, never really got to do many miles in it sadly. But it seemed right that I kept it.

Not much else to say about it really, its got around 18k miles and it needs few niggles addressing, mainly from sitting. I very much doubt much will happen to it for the foreseeable but I will keep you updated.

I'll post some proper pictures once I've had chance to clean it properly and get pics, but here is one.

OK, first annoyance. The rear of the front discs is all pitted and rusty and not cleaning up like the front side you can see - was mentioned on MOT and I can feel it through the pedal..
Discs and pads ordered, will strip the calipers, clean, inspect, regrease when they arrive.

Tbh I know like zero about these, its a bit odd as we did have a 500 for a good while, is same same but different. Have to say, hate the seats, they are so uncomfortable! who signed off that design? some sadist clearly.
Saw an Abarth about 6mths ago with one of those JML seat cushions on…I’ve only ever driven the abarth on test drives, so never got ‘uncomfortable’, but the ride/seats do come in for some ‘uncomfortable’ reading on here! (Sorry, couldn’t resist). I think for the shear fun quotient, I’d just grin and bear it

yeah its bone stock. Its not exactly the spec my mum wanted but she really needed a car and this one was available. So she didnt get the nicer headunit with navigation etc. I don't know what all the options available are but i dont think this really has any - which is fine by me, less the go wrong lol

Brake stuff arrived but i was under the cube changing CV Boots and things, so will do that soon. In other news, the Mrs drove it today - she was nervous cause her cube is auto and so was old one and she not done manual for eons - but she was fine and now wants to steal it lol.

So the MOT mentioned the rear of the front discs wearing uneven. Yep, confirmed, that's true lol

Checked it all over and as expected just a bit of lack of use, all looks fine but both back pads were really stuck in the carrier. So just cleaned and regreased things. New discs and pads on, went EBC discs and pads, greenstuff.

Also emptied the 'rot pockets' in the inner arch, such a stupid design that is 🤦 Hey-ho, the 100hp was okay with regular cleaning, massive hassle though as you just can't get to it with wheels on.

Ooooo can you expand specifically where in the inner arch you're talking about

so look in your arch directly behind the shock, where the solid brake line comes though. Just below that there will be a 'shelf' - but if you start clearing that shelf you will find that is actually just a pocket of mud etc.

People say its a drain hole issue but its not really in my opinion, it catches dirt and the dirt holds water. I found this picture online, not my car but all the 169 pandas and fiat 500s (and thus that ford ka thats just a fiat) all have this pocket, this pic is actually of a Ka but is same same. I cleaned them out so many times on my old panda 100hp!

The only uncomfortable seats in a Abarth are the Sabelt bucked seats, the basic sport seats are fine, IMHO
Have not had any problems with them, I'm 6.2 tall.

When I first saw this thread a few weeks , I say grey (same as mine:D) and 595 on the sides and assumed the OP had a Turismo.

I've just noticed his wheels don't fill the arches as well

16 inch is just to small for a 500 body, IMHO.
That's why I drive 17 Inch on my 500 Sport 105, with summer and winter tires changes.
