Hi

I upgraded the speedo in the 2017 (67) Fiat 500 Lounge 1.2 that I bought for my niece from the original factory dot matrix style one to the TFT style one. Everything went smoothly, and after changing the mileage and doing a proxi alignment the mileage stopped flashing.

I went for a short drive today, the first real one I've done since doing the work, and I noticed that the cruise control / speed limiter stalk does absolutely nothing. I don't know if I'm using it wrong, whether there is a minimum requirement for it to work (e.g. minimum gear, minimum speed?) I've tried playing about with the inner part of the stalk that toggles cruise control and speed limiter, pressing the button on the end, and also twisting the end part of the stalk to set/change speed. There is no indication on the display of anything being done, as if the stalk doesn't exist.

The guy I bought the speedo rom on eBay said the following as part of the auction:
If you have a 500 with cruise control please let me know as you can only have one with a chrome ring from a lounge as Abarth versions do not work with cars equipped with cruise.

I did tell him that I had cruise, and the speedo he sent me does have a chrome ring. But it also said "Abarth" when it first booted. THis changed to a "500" animation after I did the proxi alignment, so I had no reason to believe I had lost anything.

Anyone have any thoughts? Is there any easy way to see whether a TFT speedo "supports" cruise or not? Should cruise & speed limiter work in any gear and at any speed?

Thanks in advance!

@typecastboy may have seen this before..?

It's as if it's Deleted the Cruise..

Look in the Actuators page of MES,

WHAT does the Cruise condition show?

Thanks. Will fire up MES shortly, just waiting for laptop to charge a bit.

I definitely didn't change anything in MES, beyond increasing the mileage on the replacement speedo to match the one I removed. I followed a guide to do it (thanks "Love 500") so pretty sure it's all ok.

I can't find out any information on whether or not some TFT speedos don't support cruise/speed limiter functionality or not (for whatever reason).

If it matters - stop/start is still working, with the associated on screen icon. As I understand it stop/start uses the same clutch actuator that is required for cruise to work. I know very little about this though to be honest.

I am certain that under certain circumstances doing a proxy alignment actually removes previous functions! two years ago i had to change the led screen on my car and after doing a proxy once fixed i discovered that the ability to turn the Daytime running lights on and off from the speedo menu had disappeared!?, no one has successfully explained to me what might of happened or how to restore it i understand there is a menu in mes to find loads of bit data for every function and change them but as i dont know which one of hundreds it might be or what the i original code was theres no chance!.
I understand that i probably did something wrong or should have backed something up but i have no idea what i should have done!, bloody annoying though.
An object lesson on if you dont know what your doing then dont do it!.

As far as I know changing DRL settings is done via the head unit, not the instrument panel, though I could be mistaken. I know it's something I'm going to lose once I change my uConnect 5" one to an Xtrons.

Interesting that you lost functionality though, I must admit I didn't really pay too much attention to what the existing proxy alignment settings were because I assumed if I didn't change any of them then it would simply "re-write" what was already there.

On the pre-facelift cars the drl,s are controlled via the speedo buttons, as you say later ones via the head unit!
I think any average person would assume(probably wrongly) as it turns out the the system would NOT eliminate current data when doing a proxy, whats worrying though is that nobody appears to have a definitive answer to that question one way or another.

Ah apologies, my frame of reference is the facelift.

I'll be a bit gutted if I've just lost cruise/speed limiter through just changing the mileage on a new speedo.

At the same time the eBay seller I got it from was explicit about buyers needing to tell them if they have cruise, because "you can only have one with a chrome ring from a lounge as Abarth versions do not work with cars equipped with cruise". It makes me think certain speedos don't support showing the cruise/limiter status (no symbols?) and therefore it doesn't work because of that.

Its fiat so anything's possible! may even just be broken

Ok, this is what MES is showing me.

Nothing on the Actuators page about “Cruise”, unless I’m looking in the wrong place.

I don’t know if it’s significant but I tried connecting under Body as “Body Computer Delphi (312) MY12” and when it connected it said that it was invalid and reporting itself as “500c”?

I can’t remember how/where I changed mileage to be honest.

Wish you knew which byte controls the blinking DRL lights so i could get the on/off function back  ( mind you wouldnt have a clue how to access or change anything!)
I know very little about this, but I’d assume this is a setting rather than a configuration option (something you’d need to do a proxi alignment to set), since you can toggle DRL on or off whenever you like, without switching the ignition off and on, etc.

No idea if MES can do this - I presume it can because you also lose the ability to set the clock on facelift cars if you remove the OEM head unit, but you can set the clock in MES.

My MES won't allow “Body Computer Delphi (312) MY12” to be accessed, it advises to use the TFT option.

When I went through the byte table settings a while back I noticed this
Cruise Control byte#57 < 2009 (94 = Enable, 84 = Disable)

Did you by any chance have a look at the spreadsheet?

Thanks.

What spreadsheet are you referring to?

Also, I think maybe we’re talking about different things? “Body Computer Delphi (312) MY12” is on the “Body” section in MES. “TFT” is on the “Dashboard” section.

My car is a 2017 one so don’t think that byte you mentioned would be applicable? (“< 2009”)
