Grande Punto 2009 grande punto JTD 1.3

Introduction

Bought yesterday for my stepson. I know you should never buy the first car that you see but hey ho. 250,000 km but very honest with the current owner having it since 2011. Front brakes are new, rear 2 years ago, new shocks, recent front drive shaft, clutch 6 years ago, new battery, 2 sets of tyres all 80%. Receipts of service every 2 years. Not perfect but not bad (especially here in France). The lack of rust on the underside was pretty amazing. I have always thought that these were such a good looking car - yes 5 doors and the wheel trims are a bit OAP but for not a bad start. I think I am much more excited about this than my stepson and can’t wait to get my hands dirty.
If there is any rattle from the timing chain get it replaced asap.

Other than that these are a surprisingly solid little engine.

The rest of the car is also fairly lacking in issues especially if it’s not an electronics filled top model.

I forgot - he had the timing chain replaced in 2018. He told me although it is a chain it still has issues. How long does the chain typically last?

So a thorough clean and polish - the paint comes up well but takes forever… my ambition is greater than my energy level… is it worth it… probably not.

As good as I am willing to put into it. Headlamps polished up. I can’t get the sticker off the rear hatch so it will be covered by the learner sticker. I am keeping my eye out for a front bumper but all in all not bad fir 2009 and 250000 kms..

Almost a twin of mine. Just radio, climate control and alloy wheels are de differences. Mine is from 2009 and 240.000 km already. In addition, no signal about broken dash in passenger airbag and timing chain changed. To me you did a pretty good deal. Enjoy it with your stepson!

Send a pic :) I am toying with the idea of alloy wheels. The car came with two sets of steel wheels one with winters and the other with summer tyres. Just washing, sanding and applying some satin black today on the summer tyres. A cold spell later this week means I don’t have to rush ;)

He did a pretty good job with the paint. I gave the engine bay a little spruce up too.
