The sound is probably the water pump running dry, so turn off the water power switch to prevent further damage. Then investigate for water in tank, blocked input filter etc. If the system still pumps water then could be faulty pressure switch or tap microswitch, or leak in system. Also could be caused by air in the system, open all taps and alternate hot to cold. If all else fails to sort it may just be a worn out pump?
