Lifted the bonnet today on our 3.0 160 X250 and couldn't help but wonder how fresh air actually gets into the engine.
From the attached photos and as far as I can see, the air is drawn into the filter via two slots on the top cross member. But with the bonnet closed, these two slots/cut-outs are virtually closed off with no apparent way for forced or ram air to get into the engine, ie. when the vehicle's underway.
Surely there must be a better way of routing the air intake so it's actually facing the front of the vehicle or somewhere else where there's an unrestricted full bore supply of air.
Anal I know but it's something that's bugging me.
