Hi fairly new to the forum I have a 2006 fiat panda 1.1 I'm in need of a gear box has anybody got one for sale or noof a cheap one or even a full car to use as parts.
Thank you

Have a look on eBay etc also ring local scrap dealers. They might be in short supply though. You don't say what the problem is with your box. As long as the casing etc is not damaged you'll probably be able to recondition it.

Hi Yeah I tried ebay and scrap yards they about £250 and it's the input shaft bearing that's gone I was just going to get a punto engine and gearbox and put that in because I like the car been my cheap reliable runabout

If it's just the input bearing, they are reasonable easy to change, plenty of threads as it's fairly common

Drop the gearbox

Change the bearing and 3 oil seals

Put it back

Fill with oil

It going to cost more in new gear oil than the parts

I put a new clutch at the same time, extra £40

I payed £60 for a gearbox a couple of years ago, my car was a 1.2 and used a 1.2 from a 500 as the ratios are identical, not sure if the 1.1 is the same

not sure if the 1.1 is the same
Having driven them back to back when the cars were new, I'm 99% sure the ratios are different.

It's also possible that the ratios may be different in the eco models (from around 2009 until end of the 1.1 production run).

As has been said, if it's just the input shaft bearing & oil seal that's gone, I'd suggest repairing the existing gearbox is probably a better and cheaper option.

Here you go

The eco is marked with an *

The 1.1 is different, and will be very hard to get hold of, far fewer on the road

Putting a 1.2 will probably work, but far from ideal you will probably be driving more in 3rd than fourth around town?

Punto gearboxes are completely different ratios, they have tailer wheels, it will reving it's little head of at 50 mph in 5th

The panda 1.2 and 500 1.2 are identical
A 500 1.2 works fine in a panda 1.2 eco as test by me, but obviously you loose the eco part

I does not appear as if fiat altered the ratios between the 1.1 and 1.1 eco

Looking at all the options, and if it was me, if the gearbox is repairable, it would be cheaper and easier to do that

If you buy a secondhand gearbox, from the cheaper end there's a very good chance 50/50 it will need new input bearing and seals anyway

+1 on above.

If the box is coming out, and only known issue is failed input shaft bearing and seal, I think it makes sense to replace those and put it back instead of a new box.

Add driveshaft seals and new clutch.

I did mine following the excellent guide on here:

If you don't fancy doing it yourself I'm sure an independent garage would do it, and still preferable to an exchange box. Cheaper too:)
