I may have to remove my 2.8 JTD engine from my 2003 motorhome. The engine lost coolant on the motorway and after changing the hose there are
a)exhaust fumes in the water,
b)low compression on at least one cylinder
c)the starter"spins up" on starting and
d)once the engine warms up there's a slowing down of engine response.

The garage who did the check suggests it needs a replacement engine / major rebuild. At the minimum, the Head gasket needs replacing, and a soft seize is suspected.

So the engine probably has to come out.

Is there a guide to doing this on this site, or a manual that can help?

The garage doesn't want to do the job as they are so busy at the moment.

Provided that you have a compuer/laptop, I should act quickly, and buy this CD. I have never regretted buying mine, but my computer geek son has mounted a copy on my SSD which speeds access enormously.

Some but not all of the CD contents are available online, so take a preview, or use both. See below, where I have clicked down to the engine unit.
