General 1993 Uno 'Mambo'

Hi Punto Paul, I thought it might be Curborough when I saw the Cannock and District Car Club sign. I've never been there, only driven past on my way to the nearby kart track. I must go sometime.

There's an event in October, which all being well I should be competing in with the Uno ;)

Definitely worth a look, as they have all sorts of events on over the year :)

Hi guys :) thanks, yeah I have some spare money now so will be able to properly get these problems sorted :D

The suspension was fixed about a month ago, needed new struts and springs so ordered them from ebay. Cost £100 in parts including delivery so not too bad. Mine also sits higher at the front now! Rather annoying so I think I'll replace the same on the rear at some point when I can.

I will have a good look into the sunroof issue as I'd like it sorted for next summer so yeah, will measure it and check it to see of a Chinq sunroof will fit :)

Does anyone know if worn engine mounts can cause the exhaust to knock against the heat shield? It's driving me nuts! Also, I'm guessing it's not gonna do the exhaust any good in the long run either :/

Thanks guys :)

I'd check the two rubber donut mounting's on the middle exhaust section, my Uno exhaust was knocking quite badly at one point. And it turned out one of those had split ;) there only a couple of quid and not too bad to fit either.

But engine mounts are fairly cheap, easiest way to see if there gone is to rev the engine and check it's not rocking back and fourth or side to side too much. Slight movement maybe ok, but anything more then the chances are one or more of the mounts are gone!!

Oh no not you as well with the front suspension height, hopefully a decent set on the rear should put the height right :)

But well worth a look at sunroof from a cinquecento etc.. as I said :D must admit I like having one on my Uno on summer days.

Hi all,

Sorry for the lack of posting on here, last February someone rear ended my beloved Uno :( the other party requested that we resolved privately as it was a young driver, which is what we did as they'd probably write the car off and I'd be left with barely anything so I agreed to accept £650 towards the costs. The impact damaged the boot lid, bumper and the rear valance/hatch opening and creased the boot floor. Was quoted around £2000 for a bodyshop to repair the damage (at the time this would have been an insurance price quote). Basically I'm currently paying £42 a month to store the car in a secure car park and am unsure as to whether or not I should keep it and fix it myself or sell it as a project. I could do with the extra £42 really and I'm painfully aware that I've probably spent more than the car's currently worth in storage fees! Just after some advice/opinions really and if anyone is interested, I am open to offers as I'd rather it go to a good home and be restored and loved etc than being sat where it is at the moment. The car is still driveable (not sure legally as boot lid doesn't latch) but starts and is mechanically very good.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi, assuming the pics are now- after the bump..
it's still pretty nice,

somebody in the know can probably de-crease the wheel well for @£100,
that SHOULD get the hatch lockable again,
and the bumper is near enough for MOT standard.., once it's back on the road.. you have TIME - without fees, ;)
Charlie

Thank you :) yeah it needed some work doing before the bump anyway as there's rust on the offside arch which was temporarily repairs for an Mot, boot floor is going on the nearside but yeah I had thought I could possibly at least get it roadworthy fairly cheaply. Still wouldn't have anywhere to park it at home either though :( might look into renting a garage locally or something.

Thanks for the input :)

My brother had a similar thing years ago with his Uno, and a local body shop pulled the the boot floor straight with specialist equipment. Wasn't too expensive, and the boot opened ok after that!! Hope your Uno can get fixed soon as Mambos are rare, try gumtree etc.. For a lock up garage. That's how I got mine sorted for my Uno, though need more lock ups as I bought a mk2 Uno recently.
