Hello everyone.

A friend of mine bought this van a couple of months ago in Austria and now wants to register it in Spain where he lives right now.

Although I'm not allowed to post pictures here since I'm a new user, it is completely equipped as a camper van. The problem, and this is my question for you, is that we don't know if the van was originally sold like that by Fiat or if the job was done by an external workshop. In the first case the new registration should pretty straight forward, while in the second case it'd require more paperwork and fees.

I live in Spain and as you say if the former it will reasonably straight forward but costly , if however if the conversion was not carried out by a recognised manufacturer[ and has the paper work ] he is headed for a whole world of pain ,grief and expense ....!!!!

As you know when you go for your first technical inspection if the vehicle is not as it left the factory [ no additions such as towbar, different size tyres , alloy wheels, any aftermarket items ] your vehicle will fail with the indiferent spanish shrug of the shoulders.

Also they cannot cope with dealer/factory runout specials or limited vehicle models , a friend had limited edition H2 Hummer and it took nearly 2 years to get that sorted

I have contact in the Denia area who is a specialist in trikes, american vehicles ,kitcars and oddballs that other gestors and so call "experts " won't touch .

He is Spanish but speaks perfect english , so no language problem, if he cannot do the transfer no one can ..

Let me know if you need Marcelos no .

Re: 1991 Ducato 290-14 1.9TD Camper

Hi :)

2.4 is a strange engine size..

Does this van have any graphics on the outside stating a name : brand

There are lots of options unfortunately

Could it be a 2445TD? (Sofim 8144.21)

Sorry my fault. It is a 1.9TD (81 bhp), I got confused by something else. The only plates/graphs I can notice are a "14" plate and a "Verzinkt" ("galvanized", in German) sticker on the front wings. Sadly no hint about it being a special version of the likes of Westfalia editions in the case of MB Vito or VW T4.

Sadly I am familiar with that never-ending Spanish bureaucracy when it comes to imported vehicles. To put it short; everything can be done if you're willing to pay for it. The homologation process has been basically externalized to engineering companies who take care of all the paperwork and provide the customer with a certified document which gets the job done, at a given price.

For a van of this type it's probably not worth doing so, since its market value is around 3000€.

I uploaded them to my gallery so I could post them here, but could not do so due to being a new user.

Is it a Van..fitted with windows

Or a Caravan body.. built onto a Ducato chassis?

Finally I think I can include pictures in my messages.
