Good evening fellow Fiat aficianados. I recently pulled a Fiat X-1/9, 1979 model year, from a garage on a Nebraska farm I've owned since 1995. I distinctly recall it being in the garage back then. My Dad had a couple Porsches (911 & 944) and I've always had in the back of my mind that a Porsche might be in my future at some point. However, this X-1/9 is very appealing in many ways:
1. It's a mid engine car
2. It's computer free - I like simple.
3. I already own it.
The biggest issue is it has been lived in by pack rats for years. Before I formally decide to restore I need to figure out if I can ever get rid of the odor. I'm sure it'll need new carpet, new seats, etc. Another big issue will be finding a wiring harness - havent verified, but imagine I'll need one. I have no key; owner died a few years back. I'm the owner, but without a key! :)
So far I've been able to get into front trunk; the engine cover is open, but rear trunk is not. I was able to download a service manual and read there's a emergency pull cable in the engine compartment, but based on condition of front trunk latch not confident it'll budge. Doors seem very solid, open/close like a bank vault.
