Hi all, I have owned a fiorino for a couple of months now and am concerned about a noise it makes. On tickover it sounds fine but when you accelerate gently it sorta feels like its misfiring slightly and makes a knocking noise. However, if i accelerate hard then its fine with power and no noise. Also, on a couple of occasions it has struggled to start, it fires up etc but sorta chugs at barely any rpm with no power for a few moments, then comes to life. Any ideas anyone?

Hiya Hippychippy, You haven't given us the mileage......but I presume the fuel filter has been changed as per recommendations, and other servicing carried out with oil/filter change at least every year (10 thousand miles), and a good quality oil used. Cheap oil can cause cam chain failure. Cheers Qube O.

I had a knocking noise that was noticeable between 1300 - 2000 rpm, then it would die off with no noticeable loss of power. It turned out I had three overfueling injectors. I ended up having all four injectors replaced which solved the problem and relived me of £1200

I would look at changing the fuel filter and air filter (if it’s not already been done) first. As Qubo O has mentioned these engines are prone to timing chain issues if not regularly serviced so you need to be certain the noise you hear is diesel knock rather than a rattling timing chain.

Its a 1.3 multijet diesel

Hi.

That motor is VERY common.. and generally reliable.

Do you have any warning lights..?

Yellow.. emissions..
Red. Engine

Or glowplug light flashing??

Check when you 1st get in vehicle to see what lights up at the 'selftest' phase

Should mainly go off then

The yellow emissions
Red battery
Red oil light

Should go off after @10 seconds of engine running

Thanks guys, it has done 70k,the dealer that i got it from assured me that the chain had been replaced recently so im 50% ruling that one out. A few ppl have mentioned injectors, we got a good injector specialist near us so might take it over to him for a look. I did the air filter a few weeks back but got no idea how old the fuel filter is???
