Hi to all,

I have recently come into possesion of a 127 sport engine, the 1049cc SOHC and it needs a good service. Does anyone know where is best to go for parts for this engine? Also if it is possible to buy all I need to service it down to new mains bearings etc as a kit?

Thanks for any suggestions in advance, its not an engine I am at all familiar with...yet

Cheers,
Si

Don't know about a 'kit' but service items like filters, plugs etc should be available from your local motor factors. Bearings and so on come under 'rebuild' not service items in my opinion:) These may also be available at your local factors though.

Ok, thankyou! I will try that when I get a free moment (if they still exist). Too many projects running simultaneously it seems

Most bits are fairly easy to get - the 1049cc "Brasil" engine was fitted to other 127 models, and bits are mainly the same (except for revised cam etc). Service items should be orderable (not sure that's a word!) from somewhere like allparts or Partco (Unipart) - I get most of mine from these 2 places. Halfords can usually find the service stuff too if you ask nicely at the parts desk (y)

Depending on what else you need, you'll probably get it ok. Speak to Phil or Franco at Ricambio (link from the Fiat Motor Club website) for anything really unusual - go to them last as it probably won't be cheap!!

I have 2 of the Sport engines sat in my trailer at the moment, plus one in my car. Might be able to help with non-technical stuff, or find someone who knows if you get too technical  When you've practiced on yours, you can have a go at my spare engines if you like (y)

Cheers, Gavin.

Cool, thanks. I will bare that in mind when I get round to it. Just giving it a rebuild at first so shouldnt be any specialist parts......yet. Got a service manual of the net which should talk me through it too.

Will report back when this kicks off!

Hi,

I don't no if anyone would know but I would like to get some go fast bits and flared mudguards for my original 1975 127.The previous owner put a 5 speed box and an abarth engine which he replaced with the normal spec engine before I bought it. I was thinking of a turbo but i don't know if i can put it on my car.
Thanks
Lphilp

Hard to find parts for the ohc 1050 70Hp engine are pistons and cilinderhead bolts and studs. All other parts should be "buyable" from normal suppliers. I've done a rebuild of such an engine last year so might be able to help you with things like partnumbers. Be sure to look at the Y10 turbo list for spares, it's the same engine... PB me for questions though, not here so often...

So with the 127 sport and Y10 Turbo being the same, does that mean turbo gear from a y10 would fit on a 127s providing it fitted in the bay?

Also, are the any large differences between the stock 127 and sport engines?

You should be able to fit a y10 turbo engine (assuming you could find somewhere for the intercooler and oil rad) but they are extremely rare these days. Also the y10 turbo engine has different cylinders to give a lower compression ratio, so you wouldnt be able to just bolt the turbo onto your existing engine - it would have to be a complete engine transplant.

Occasionally on ebay you see a y10 GTIe engine come up for sale - this is a 1301cc version of the brasilia engine complete with bosch fuel injection, which gives about 75 bhp in standard form.

If you manage to track down a timing belt tensioner bearing then let me know, as my local parts factor said they had nothing listed.

cheers,

Jim
