Can anyone tell me if the gearbox ratios from a 1242 (Punto 1.2) gearbox are the same as the ratios in an 1108 (Cinq) gearbox?

I know the 1242 box will bolt onto a cinq easily enough, just wondering about the differences in ratios. Also if anyone has any figures on ratios for both these gearboxes then it would be great.

Thanks

David

Yeah go on then pete, might help someone. It might appear that the syncromesh on 3rd has gone and was thinking about putting the box rich has in from the 1242. Really would like a replacement cinq box though if the ratios are different.

Thanks

David

1.1 Punto 55 ratios: Cinq ratios:-------55 6 speeder ratios

1st 3,909:1 --------1st 3.909:1-------3.545:1
2nd 2,157:1 --------2nd 2.157:1------2.157:1
3rd 1,480:1 --------3rd 1.480:1-------1.480:1
4th 1,121:1 --------4th 1.121:1-------1.121:1
5th 0,902:1 --------5th 0.829:1-------0.902:1
6th-----------------------------------0.744:1
Rev 3,818:1 --------Rev 3.818:1------3.818:1
Final drive 3,866:1 --FD: 3.866:1------4.923:1

So 5th will be a little shorter. 6 speeders are just silly on a cinq.

I posted something on a punto forum last night and this is the reply i got:

For MK1 the technical specifications in brief (55/60 range) are as follows:

Gearbox 55/60:

1st 3,909:1 / 3,545:1
2nd 2,157:1 / 2,157:1
3rd 1,480:1 / 1,480:1
4th 1,121:1 / 1,121:1
5th 0,902:1 / 0,902:1
6th - 0,744:1
RM 3,818:1 / 3,818:1

Thanks Tokha from Puntoforum.com

----------Cinq------Punto55---Punto60--6Speed
1st-------3.909:1---3.909:1---3.545:1---3.545:1
2nd-------2.157:1---2.157:1---2.157:1---2.157:1
3rd-------1.480:1---1.480:1---1.480:1---1.480:1
4th-------1.121:1---1.121:1---1.121:1---1.121:1
5th-------0.829:1---0.902:1---0.902:1---0.902:1
6th---------N/A------N/A--------N/A-----0.744:1

FinalDrive-3.866:1---3.866:1---???????---4.923:1

Is my reasoning right then?

The Punto 55 box is the same apart from the a Shorter 5th Gear?

The Punto 60 box has a shorter 5th Gear and a Shorter 1st?

Someone correct me if i am wrong?

Thanks

David

thats what i was thinking in the 1st place, but i edited the post to say both were shorter.

If i was to drop this into the cinq, what effect would it have? Yes i know i would get a shorter top end but would i also get worse Acceleration as well?

Thanks

David

Is that good/bad or neither? lol.

I have apunto 60 gearbox and engine on its way to drop into the Sei (the sei gearbox makes a whining noise in 4th, and no other gear, so I'm assuming its knackered and the Punto box will be put in instead)

cheers all

U might run out of revs in 5th on the motorway, I can see a longer 5th gear will kill your Acceleration with a 1242 but it will not be as good as if a cinq box was in.

Oh i found this on another Punto forum as well:

Sounds like it, I'd check the 'box physically to see that the mounts from the cinq can be fitted easily - the Punto mounts might be different.

Reinforces my theory on the 6 speeder does that web page, ta!

edit:

You will almost certainly have to swap the clutch release arm over too, but that's a 10 min job when both the 'boxes are on the floor.
