I am looking for a mechanic in Essex/East London/Herts to replace my cambelt and water pump on my 100hp. A couple that I have contacted did not fill me with confidence, my car has done 41k and has no record of a change.

I don't mind travelling to someone with the right experience and tools if necessary but don't want a bodger to ruin it as it runs so well right now.

I would appreciate any recommendations on here, but please only if you have actually used their services.
I am in Basildon

Many thanks

I'd agree you're wise to be cautious; this engine requires both special care and the correct locking tools.

There have been a number of posts from folks who've run into problems after they (or their local garage) have changed the belt using a generic belt change procedure.

@typecastboy probably knows someone who can help, if you don't mind travelling south of the river.

Quite willing to travel, but would like it done the same day rather than having to leave the car and return if possible

I've never used them but there's DSR in Palmer Green, North London.

I hear they do tend to specialise in BMW and Mini as well.

There's also Gonnella Brother in Catford, South London.
I have used them once or twice and they do a good job, though there are a few complaints floating around about them being rude, though that's usually from touchy Alfa owners.

Both might be a bit out of the way, I guess you can always jump on a train and have a mooch around Central London to kill the time

I use a mobile fella and have been using him for a while. He's done about 10 of my cambelts now, all on the 1.2 though. He is a part time mobile currenly as he works for Caterham building the cars. He's based in Orpington but may come to you. I can give you his details if you PM me.
