Ive driven a my mates new clio, poo, loads of rattles.

Also driven my other mates V6 Now thats a different story.

To be honest tho that rattled like hell too, and the arches looked stuck on and easily pull offable. Still fast as fook tho.

Widely accepted by who? Clio owners?

The steering wheel was too thin. I don't have big hands but i had my fingers touching my hands wrapped around the wheel.

The gearbox was loose. Felt like driving a tractor, not a car.

I drive round corners in the weekend and my mate says "If you did that in my clio you'd be in that wall"

But the clio II is widely accepted as being one of the best handling hatchbacks ever?! If you think that's a skateboard what do you want from a car?!

see my slash remark Bob :)

I dont hate it cause its compedtition for the punto, i hate it cause its french as i do with every other renault, peugeot or citroen

Good work :D

PS. Do you drive straight for the rest of the week? ;)

Bit ignorant Bob....you should look at what the car is, not what country it comes from.

Hellcat: erm, everybody?! Why do you think the 172/182 are the success they are, I am not into the clio sport brand but I think everybody on here that knows about it will say the same, the clio II is one of the best handling hatches, ever, and the hot versions are possibly the best hot hatches ever.

When you've sat in glasgow cause the renaults broke down, sat in turnberry cause its broken down again, sat at the side of the autobahn near Frankfurt cause its broken down again. And then thankfully i wasnt there when this happened stood at the side of the M4 when it broke down and the engine set on fire and the entire thing burnt out in the hard shoulder, you try being enthusiastic about french cars let alone renaults....

I have more bad experience with french cars but i dont have the time to write them...

I been put off for life

Right back on topic  Yes punto should have won ;) not that im biased

Can't compare the 172/182 with a 1.4 16v. Just like you can't compare a 1.4 Tipo to the Sedicivalvole.

Plus I'd rather have another Sedici than a 172/182

On topic, which diesel would they have been able to compare with the clio within a reasonable margin +/- 1k ?

The 172/182 are very much like the basic clio with little done apart from the 2.0, hence why the 1.4 16v is still a great handling car, according to people who know.

Clio comes in 65, 86 and 106 1.5 diesels, not 1.9 in it (yet, who knows).

Clio 86 (200Nm torque) dynamique (midrange) (£85 tax, 64mpg, ins. grp. 4) comes in at 11150 (list price).

Punto 90 comes in at 10,195.00 VAT incl at most basic, so you have to spec it up to compare with the clio, so small price difference. Can't find specs on the punto 90 as so new.

It's basic things that new clio owners will like, such as handsfree card which is simply genius.

According to people who know? I've driven one and it was horrid and I've driven enough cars to know whats good, and what's not.

I took the fact that it didn't even have front fogs as meaning it was low spec in general....!

Not giving a car front fog lights seems sensible in today's market.

Half the people don't realise they are there.
Of the other half, half drive around with them on during the day and the other half forget to switch them off when it clears up.

I passed my driving test in a clio 2 which paul is on about - pile of french ****

Crap gearbox, clutch, i agree with hellcat on the steering wheel also.

I do agree with paul that they do sell a lot, but i notice a lot are P/X'd or in auctions months later, wonder why that is :chin:
