Technical 1.3 Mjet gearbox oil change

Really interesting stuff.

I just thought (clearly incorrectly) that smaller vans would have somewhat lesser capable equipment (such as engine, gearbox, dif..), never thought it would just be a measure of adjusting to the desire outcome from the same base equipment.

really interesting puts things in perspective in terms of understanding wear and tear, and longevity under different uses

Its all the same engine and gearbox they just bolted it in a different Van/car, the 1.3 gearbox used in these is the same one out of the 2004 punto 1.3 multijet, they just pulled it from the parts bin and to be honest its a pretty good little gear box.

Vans generally tend to be de-tuned compared to their car counterparts, a prime example is the VW T5 van as a people carrier with a 2.0 tdi diesel engine is something like 140hp, and the van version of exactly the same vehicle without seats but loaded up with tools is 88hp. this means you take it to your local car tuning centre and with a quick 5 mins on a computer you can quickly unlock huge amounts of extra power.

Well Andy, in this particulkat Fiat case, it's not totally true !

The 1.3 Mjt comes in three versions: 75, 85 and 90 HP, at least for the Grande, and even if they share the same engine the turbos are different so it's not as easy to un-leash extra HP as you said...
And BTW, it's illegal ;-)

Well going back the original 1.3 mjt only had 79hp but with a remap would easily make 100hp.

The differing versions are simply bolt on bits like the turbo and a different map. The only real difference is the variable geometry turbo fitted to more powerful cars to reduce the turbo lag, I believe all iterations of the 1.3 multi can easily be tweeked to 100hp and maybe more, the Fiat 500x for example was fitted from the factory with a 95hp version so you’ll likely get at least 110hp from this engine with an appropriate remap. Obviously the smaller engine and smaller capacity you won’t be unlocking huge HP figures like you would from a de-tuned 2.0tdi with only 88hp, but almost all diesels will give you a respectable jump in Hp with nothing more than a remap.

Edit: a very quick check and a well respected U.K. turning company website, turned up this https://www.celtictuning.co.uk/serv...75-bhp-2005-2010-ECU-remap-chiptuning/stage-1

36bhp improvement 111hp on the 75bhp version of the engine. I’d say that pretty good and nearly 50% improvement in power !
