Hi guys,

I've noticed over the last couple of weeks, the car seems a bit sluggish. She doesnt seem to have the same 'nippiness' (if thats even a word!!) that she usually has. I have used redex and suchlike in the past, the last time being only 4months ago, and she gets a good motorway blowout twice a week. Any suggestions? I dont like using redex, etc too much, although I dont know if this is ok??
Many thanks in advance,

Martin

i agree martin as i have the same car

its not the same as when i first purchased it..
dont even get me startd about whther it has a third gear!

Ah, now thats where mine is slightly different..... My third gear has always seemed fairly ok! At the moment I'm starting to understand what other people mean about 3rd, but overall its not bad at all!

Unless they serviced her when they did my MOT in March (which they probably didn't) it would have been Feb 2005 (20 months ago). What would you recommend trying? I replaced the spark plugs at the weekend (simply because I last changed them around 18 months ago).
Cheers guys,

Martin

Oil and filter would be a good change for sure! Supposed to change hgese at least every 12 months. Have a check on your air filter too to make sure it aint clogged up. May be worth replacing that too

Martin, give the car a good service. as Wimmy has said, oil and oil filter, air filter.. and id say plug leads aswell, try to get all those bits done and see how it goes from there mate

Cheers Wimmy,

I was just looking through the running guide and... oh dear! Mine is coming up to the 48k mark fairly quickly... looks like shes gonna be costing me a bit soon!!
As for the air filter, I'm gonna get the remap early next year along with the DIA (??) so I'll probably hold off on that one for now.
Thanks again,

Martin

Lol, not that expensive! Your lucky to only have 48 on it. I did 3 belt changes on my old 1.2 but she went.

And thats at a quarter of the price for the HGT bet change. Thank your lucky stars!

the filter is only about a tenner for a standard replacement jobbie mate, id do it aswell as it could be full of 2 summers and winters and everything inbetweens worth of crap

Lol, yeh sorry, I didn't mean the filter change was expensive, I meant theres a lot to be done / changed at 48k such as:

Replace fuel filter
Replace air filter
Replace spark plugs
Replace engine oil
Replace engine oil filter
and possibly...
Replace timing belt, as I don't think it was done at 40k :S

If the air filter replacement is fairly cheap I might just do that then, just for the winter period. Is it true that you have to take the wing off to get to it properly?? Bloody well hope not! lol

Cheers,

Martin

LOL. No the wing doesn't need removing. All it takes is to remove 4 screws and one jubilee clip. Fiddle with getting the cover off. Then replace. Fit back together. 15mins. Unless you snap or round a screw. :)

Expect the screws to be more a bleb of rust :)

Mine where anyway!

Garry

Ahhh or course, please excuse my stupidity! Its only the actual filter that is replaced, not the whole black box!! I knew that... (blushes)

To remove the whole box though, you do have to take the wing off dont you? I'm sure I heard that somewhere!

Yeh, I've had the filter top cover off before and rounded off a couple of screws, but somehow managed to get them out and back in again.

Cheers,

Martin

LOL. No, the wing stays on at all times. To remove the air filter box, remove the wings plastic wheelarch liner.

When you get the air filter screws out i would replace them with new screws and grease the threads on the screws for when you refit the filter. This will prevent them rusting solid next time. Also dont tighten them too hard.
